Job OverviewAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, dynamic and forward thinking individual to join our Senior Biomedical Scientist team to help take forward and develop the Clinical Biochemistry Department at Frimley Park Hospital.
The laboratory is fully accredited with UKAS and holds IBMS training status for Registration and Specialist Portfolio.
Within the Laboratory we currently use Winpath Enterprise, Abbott Alinity CIs, GLP automation, TOSOH G11's, UV spectrophotometer, Osmo Pro, Chloride meter and PLGF meter.
Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS), one of the first NHS pathology networks to be established in 1998, is now one of the largest in the country. We are driven to provide a patient centred service which provides safe, high quality, clinically led diagnostics.
BSPS is a contractual joint venture between Ashford & St. Peter’s Hospitals, Frimley Health (Wexham Park & Frimley Park Hospitals), Royal Berkshire, Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts, and Surrey and Sussex Healthcare.
Main duties of the jobBeing flexible, self-motivated and innovative will be fundamental to your role. The ability to communicate effectively with seniors and laboratory team is essential.
You will use your knowledge and skill to ensure a robust and fully operational system within the Clinical Biochemistry department. You will look for new opportunities to get the best from the team and successfully implement changes required to ensure the system delivers the desired patient focused service.
You will be based at Frimley Park Hospital, and may be required at times to travel to the other sites in the Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Network.
Detailed Job Description And Main ResponsibilitiesThe post-holder will practise as an HCPC Registered BMS in the department, participating fully in the practical work of the department and shift for out of hours provision. They will be responsible for the operation and provision of a high quality technical service providing guidance to other staff as appropriate. They will also be expected to deputise for the Site Lead Clinical Biochemistry BMS in their absence.
The post holder will be responsible for the day to day running of a quality, efficient and a timely Clinical Biochemistry Service as requested by the service users, ensuring departmental protocols, policies and standard operating procedures are adhered to and updated to comply with regulatory and accreditation requirements including UKAS ‘Standards for the Medical Laboratory’ and ISO 15189: 2022.
Person specificationQualificationsEssential criteria- HCPC registered
- Extensive professional knowledge - gained through MSC or at least 5 years experience
- Evidence on CPD
Desirable criteria- MSc in Biomedical Science or Clinical Biochemistry
- Relevant experience at Senior level - at least three years
CompetenciesEssential criteria- Excellent communication skills - verbal and written
