Job Description:

Summary of the Organization:

Bristol is one of the most popular and successful universities in the UK, ranked 54th in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2025. The School of Economics in Bristol ranked 7th in the last UK-wide research evaluation exercise for overall quality of research.

Summary of the Role:

The main purpose of this Bristol-based position is to support Professors Christine (University of Bristol and J-PAL), Grant Miller (Stanford University and J-PAL) and Áureo de Paula (University College London) in implementing and carrying out data analysis for a randomized controlled trial on demand for contraception taking place in Nigeria.

You will work closely with the principal investigators (PIs) and the survey implementation partner to develop and pre-test the endline survey instrument, monitor fidelity of implementation, clean the data collected, and analyse the data under the PIs’ guidance. Depending on qualifications, experience and motivation, you may also contribute to the drafting of initial reports and be a co-investigator in grant applications to extend the project.

This is a 6-month full-time position. Given the short timeframe, you need to already have the right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities:

  1. Review, adapt, and (desk) pre-test survey instruments
  2. Monitor daily the data collected to ensure fidelity of implementation of the survey protocols
  3. Liaise with PIs and the survey firm to respond to fieldwork challenges as they arise
  4. Data cleaning
  5. Implement the data analysis plan devised by the PIs
  6. Carry out limited tasks to support other related research projects, such as preparing replication packages
  7. Literature reviews
  8. Depending on qualifications, experience and motivation, the successful applicant may also contribute to the drafting of initial reports and be a co-investigator in future grant applications to extend the project.

Qualifications:

  1. Experience in the analysis of large datasets using Stata
  2. A good honours degree in Economics or related topic
  3. A good postgraduate degree in Economics or related topic or be working towards one, or equivalent professional experience
