Bristol, England, United Kingdom
Role Description
This post is an excellent opportunity for an experienced medical statistician with interests in primary care and health services research to work on a large, pragmatic cluster randomised controlled trial of practice-level intervention, with an embedded mixed-methods process evaluation. The aim of the trial is to find out whether the Bristol Medication Review (BRISMED) toolkit can improve standards of medicines use compared with usual general practice care. The project, funded by the NIHR Health Service and Delivery Programme, has three core objectives: successful implementation of the BRISMED toolkit in general practices, comparison of clinical effectiveness of the BRISMED toolkit with usual care, alongside an evaluation of the cost implications, and assessment of acceptability to, and experience of, patients and practitioners.
What will you be doing?
The post holder will play a key role in developing and implementing the trial’s statistical analysis plan, working under the guidance of a senior statistician. They will take the lead in managing and storing project data, ensuring data integrity through careful cleaning and detailed analysis of the trial dataset. Additionally, they will contribute to the dissemination of findings by preparing statistical analyses and results for publications, presentations, and other research outputs. While working independently, the post holder will also collaborate closely with the wider BRISMED research team, reporting to Dr Michael Lawton, Lead Statistician and Dr Deborah McCahon, Principal Investigator.
You should apply if
You should apply if you are a motivated and enthusiastic individual with a strong foundation in statistical inference, excellent quantitative skills in data manipulation, analysis, and reporting, and experience writing command files in a general statistical package (e.g., Stata or R). This role is particularly well-suited to candidates with strong knowledge of clinical trial study designs, statistical concepts and techniques, and a keen interest in working primary care and health services research using electronic health record data.
