Job Description

Job Summary:

This role is responsible for ensuring the production cell is actively engaged to meet daily customer TAT whilst driving productivity and continuous improvement. The Manufacturing Shift Team Leader enhances performance through process improvement, provides effective training to the production cell to ensure all processes are consistent across the team and the other shifts while ensuring safety and quality standards are maintained at all times.

Essential Duties:

  • Work with the Manufacturing Shift Manager and other Manufacturing Shift Team Leaders to manage and prioritize staffing assignments to ensure customer demand and production targets are met.
  • Execute and coordinate employee training to ensure that procedures are followed and meet all quality requirements.
  • Agree and implement measures and targets, monitor and control performance, report on progress and initiate corrective action as required. (e.g. Quality, on time delivery, yield, rework and waste.)
  • Attend daily production meetings with the Manufacturing Shift Manager and peers, covering for staff absence, filling gaps in resource in all areas and prioritizing work requirements and effectively communicating this to the team.
  • Work across the production cycle to ensure the flow of work meets customers TAT and expectations. Taking immediate decisions in problem solving to ensure all units meet their deadline.
  • Use basic problem-solving techniques to ensure stable operation of the work cell.
  • Report problems or concerns with quality, processes, equipment, materials and labor to the Manufacturing Shift Manager and appropriate teams.
  • Work closely with support staff such as Engineers, Operations, Supply Chain, Quality and HR to resolve issues.
  • Set, monitor and review staff and shift performance.
  • Update production metrics and facilitate regular team communication.
  • Identify and support continuous improvement efforts with the Manufacturing Shift Manager and the continuous improvement team.
  • Initiate and implement best practice processes, techniques and drive lean manufacturing and 5S activities.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to facilitate manufacturing functions.
  • Participate as an active member of the production management team.
  • Follow documented policies and procedures as designated by the company’s Quality System.
  • Deputize for the Manufacturing Shift Manager and other Manufacturing Shift Team Leaders as required.
  • Ensure all production equipment is maintained and serviced appropriately in conjunction with the engineering department, keeping daily safety checks books and documentation where necessary.
  • Provide a positive 'can-do’ approach to management, whilst leading the team by example.
  • Ensure Health and Safety compliance and programs are being followed where applicable.
  • Ensure compliance with the SOP for machinery in the cell.
  • Perform other duties as reasonably requested by the management team.

Qualifications (Typical Experience, Typical Education, Knowledge/Skills/Abilities):

Experience:

  • At least 3 years’ warehouse experience in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • At least 3 years’ experience as a Supervisor.
  • At least 3 years’ experience working with a Warehouse / Production / Distribution Management System.

Education:

  • GSCE / A level education required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in an FMCG environment.
  • Proven track record of leading teams.
  • Leadership within a modern manufacturing environment.
  • Lean manufacturing, problem solving and continual process improvement experience.
  • Track record of leading a manufacturing team, bringing great leadership and team relationship building knowledge.

Essential Physical Demands:

  • Ability to walk and stand as needed.
  • Ability to grip/grasp as needed.
  • Ability to lift/carry in full range of motion as needed.
  • Ability to push/pull in a warehouse environment as needed.
  • Ability to bend, squat/kneel, twist/turn, reach above shoulder, and type/keyboard frequently.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule which could include nights and weekends & ability to travel as needed.
  • Ability to be trained and operate power industrial equipment.
  • Exposure to a wide range of temperatures.
