Job description

We are looking for a motivated Junior Scientist to support the development of the Phytoform Labs core genome editing technology. You’ll be a member of the R&D team working closely with senior scientists in the development of novel CRISPR-based tools for precise genome editing of higher crops. This role is ideal for someone looking to deepen their expertise, refine their scientific thinking, and contribute meaningfully to impactful projects before deciding on their next academic or professional step.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform a range of molecular tasks such as large-scale DNA isolation from bacteria, genomic DNA extraction from plants, and PCR.
  • Isolate protoplasts from crop species and prepare materials for isolation.
  • Assist with senior researchers’ experiments and follow experimental protocols under their guidance.
  • Keep a well-organised record of all data and results electronically.
Essential Requirements
  • BSc in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or related fields.
  • Practical experience of molecular biology work including DNA and RNA extraction.
  • Experience in preparing and maintaining bacterial cultures.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • A self-motivated, flexible and proactive approach to work.
  • Demonstrable numeracy skills.
  • IT skills including Microsoft Office Word and Excel.

Beneficial Experience
  • Master’s degree with practical lab experience.
  • Experience beyond the classroom in an industry or academic lab.
  • Experience with using laboratory management software (ELNs) and project management software (Asana or others).

This job is part of an Advanced Research + Innovation Agency - funded project, subject to contract negotiations.
