Our Barnstaple facility is located in North Devon. Founded in 1948, the site now employs approximately 140 employees and features the Aero Stanrew brand of electromagnetic components, printed-circuit board assemblies, cabinet wiring and electronic test equipment for safety critical applications in aerospace and defence, industrial and transportation industries.

TT Barnstaple are currently trialling a 4-day working week and during that time you can either opt in or out of the pilot. hours of work available are:

OPT IN - Monday to Thursday 7.15am to 5.30pm.
OPT OUT - Monday to Thursday 8am to 5pm/Friday 8am to 1pm

Role Overview and Responsibilities

Introduction

Develops and maintains Health, Safety & Environmental (HS&E) programs and coordinates activities associated with the HS&E policies and procedures on site.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Implements and monitors programs and procedures to ensure total compliance with all laws and regulations and supports with development of HSE Programs as required.
  2. Maintains external HSE accreditation certification and interacts with internal and external stakeholders to ensure accreditation status.
  3. Investigates all incidents/injuries, maintains statistics and makes recommendations for correction of problem areas.
  4. Assists in communicating hazard control information and evaluates effectiveness of the controls.
  5. Drives regular safety audits throughout the facility reporting results and following up to ensure discrepancies are corrected.
  6. Acts as a HSE contact in dealing with regulatory agencies, and trains management to understand HSE regulations and standards including, but not limited to, HSE.
  7. Develops training materials and conducts HSE training; including new hire orientation.
  8. Serves as chair/support for HSE for site committee.
  9. Develops & implements 6S initiatives related to Environmental & Safety.
  10. Conducts regular gap analysis/audits of our systems.
  11. Ensures implementation of Group HSE minimum standards are implemented at site.
  12. Ensures all incidents, near misses and hazards are reported on the TT Electronics group database accordingly.
  13. Member of the site Emergency response team (with hands on aspect ie; Spill containment, Fire).
  14. Leads by example - promotes safe system of working by engagement.
  15. Ensures the review/creation & management of all site risk assessments.
  16. EHS representative for site customer & compliance audits.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

Core Requirements

  1. Safety & Environmental - with experience in an office/manufacturing environment.
  2. Flexible - ability to undertake tasks as prioritised.
  3. Self-starting & highly motivated - impeccable time & attendance and a 'can do' attitude.
  4. High personal safety standards.
  5. PC skills - must be proficient with utilising basic packages, to include e-mail and excel.
  6. Good communication skills - recognises that this role is a service provider and our internal customer interface is critical, thus the need to 'always be professional'.
  7. Ability to persuade and influence.
  8. Knows and interprets the legislation, regulation & law, bringing this to life by implementation of policies & procedures.
  9. Detects opportunities for safety/environmental improvements in the production areas and monitors the development of these projects.
  10. Drives the safety aspect of the preventive and predictive maintenance programs of the company.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  1. NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent) in safety/health/environmental with a minimum 3 years' professional HSE experience in a similar role in a manufacturing environment.
  2. Proficiency in Microsoft packages.
  3. NEBOSH Diploma in safety/health/environmental engineering with 5 years' professional HSE experience in a similar role in a manufacturing environment.
