Job description

We are seeking a Head of Finance with Construction accountancy experience for a mature construction business based on the outskirts of Southampton. Like so many companies in this sector, the company is thriving with an ever-increasing demand and has partnered with a number of blue-chip clients providing a long-term pipeline of work. The business is circa £30m turnover operating under 2 legal entities.

Responsibilities
  1. Production and analysis of monthly management accounts, calculation and posting of accruals, prepayments, and depreciation.
  2. Reconciliation of intercompany transactions across the four legal entities; posting recharges and adjustments where necessary.
  3. Review of Commercial Cost and Value Reconciliations (CVRs), and writeback into the accounting system.
  4. Submission of monthly VAT and CIS returns to HMRC.
  5. Manage the cash flow of the business, ensuring that operational activities are delivered seamlessly.
  6. Work closely with an external firm of accountants with the production of annual accounts, tax computations, and other statutory returns.
  7. Production of detailed management information to provide to the bank.
  8. Review of all balance sheet reconciliations completed by the finance team, and agree to external records (Government Gateway, supplier statements, etc).
  9. Drive development of the COINS software package ensuring that the finance function is delivering for the business as it grows.
Essential Skills
  1. Qualified Accountant (preferably ACCA or CIMA), with significant post qualification experience in senior finance roles.
  2. Proven track record in producing concise management information.
  3. Ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines, often working under own initiative.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with non-finance functions of the business teaching and challenging where appropriate.
  5. Capability to remain composed under pressure at all times; setting an example to others for professional behaviour.
  6. Advanced excel user who can take data out of the system and turn that into useful information for driving the best decisions in the business.
  7. Experience of implementing new processes and procedures and consistently challenging such processes to improve the quality of input.
  8. Positive mindset with a ‘can do’ attitude and flexible approach.
  9. Building relationships with commercial teams, ensuring that the two functions work hand-in-hand.
  10. Experience working in for a contracting business.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
  1. Experience working in Construction or Civil Engineering.
  2. Proficiency with the COINS accounting software.
