We are seeking a Head of Finance with Construction accountancy experience for a mature construction business based on the outskirts of Southampton. Like so many companies in this sector, the company is thriving with an ever-increasing demand and has partnered with a number of blue-chip clients providing a long-term pipeline of work. The business is circa £30m turnover operating under 2 legal entities.
Responsibilities
- Production and analysis of monthly management accounts, calculation and posting of accruals, prepayments, and depreciation.
- Reconciliation of intercompany transactions across the four legal entities; posting recharges and adjustments where necessary.
- Review of Commercial Cost and Value Reconciliations (CVRs), and writeback into the accounting system.
- Submission of monthly VAT and CIS returns to HMRC.
- Manage the cash flow of the business, ensuring that operational activities are delivered seamlessly.
- Work closely with an external firm of accountants with the production of annual accounts, tax computations, and other statutory returns.
- Production of detailed management information to provide to the bank.
- Review of all balance sheet reconciliations completed by the finance team, and agree to external records (Government Gateway, supplier statements, etc).
- Drive development of the COINS software package ensuring that the finance function is delivering for the business as it grows.
Essential Skills
- Qualified Accountant (preferably ACCA or CIMA), with significant post qualification experience in senior finance roles.
- Proven track record in producing concise management information.
- Ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines, often working under own initiative.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with non-finance functions of the business teaching and challenging where appropriate.
- Capability to remain composed under pressure at all times; setting an example to others for professional behaviour.
- Advanced excel user who can take data out of the system and turn that into useful information for driving the best decisions in the business.
- Experience of implementing new processes and procedures and consistently challenging such processes to improve the quality of input.
- Positive mindset with a ‘can do’ attitude and flexible approach.
- Building relationships with commercial teams, ensuring that the two functions work hand-in-hand.
- Experience working in for a contracting business.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Experience working in Construction or Civil Engineering.
- Proficiency with the COINS accounting software.
