Job description

Job Description

It's an exciting time to join us as a General Accountant at AXA UK. You'll assist in ensuring complete and accurate accounting records are maintained monthly, which enable the provision of financial information and other services for both internal and external customers of the Finance function. You'll have the opportunity to develop and interact with a wide network of contacts, at the same time developing your core technical accounting skills.

At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least 40% of your week away from home at our Ipswich office, moving to the majority of your working week from September 2025. Away from home means either attendance at one of our office locations, visiting clients or attending industry events. We're also happy to consider flexible working arrangements, which you can discuss with Talent Acquisition.

What you'll be doing:

  • Support in the production of monthly and quarterly reporting packs under various Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAPs), analysing the balance sheets and full profit and loss account for several AXA UK companies.
  • Facilitate in the production of annual and quarterly reporting for Solvency II Pillar 3, preparing the solvency II balance sheets and other required reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual statutory financial statements for several AXA UK companies.
  • Provide financial analysis and explanatory commentary of actual result performance against prior year, plans, and forecasts.
  • Liaise with other teams such as Group Tax for preparation of the taxation charges for actual results under UK and IFRS GAAP or Internal Financial Control team to ensure controls are compliant and necessary documentation is accurately maintained.
  • Produce ad hoc financial information, interpretation, analysis, and support to customers, thereby enabling an improved understanding of the information provided.
  • Identify and implement improvements to production processes to increase efficiency.

Due to the number of applications we expect to receive for this role, we reserve the right to close this advert earlier than the listed closing date to ensure we're able to effectively manage interest. Therefore, if you're interested in joining us at AXA, please don't hesitate to apply.

We know that some candidates may be discouraged from applying if they don't meet every requirement. If you're excited by this job and the prospect of working at AXA but you're not sure you tick every box, we'd still encourage you to apply.

What you'll bring:

  • Qualified Accountant or progression towards qualification, ACA, ACCA or CIMA.
  • Timely and accurate preparation of management and financial reports.
  • Ability to meet crucial and demanding deadlines.
  • Ability to leverage attention to detail to ensure there are no significant errors within financial reports.
  • Experience of improvement and enhancement of processes and efficiency.
  • Excellent and positive working relationships with both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to tackle issues in a logical and professional manner.
  • Experience of monthly reconciliations prepared and agreed.

As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorised to work in the United Kingdom.

What we offer:

At AXA UK, we're appreciative of the people who work for us and our rewards package is reviewed regularly to reflect that. You can expect to receive:

  • Competitive annual salary of up to £50,000 dependent on experience
  • Annual company & performance-based bonus
  • Contributory pension scheme (up to 12% employer contributions)
  • Life Assurance (up to 10 x annual salary)
  • 25 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays
  • Opportunity to buy up to 5 extra days leave or sell up to 5 days leave
  • Up to 21 hours volunteering leave per year
  • AXA employee discounts
  • Gym benefits
