Job description

Senior Accountant/Client Manager
Remote UK
£36k - £45k + bens

Are you an experienced accountant who thrives on building client relationships?

Excited by the idea of joining a fast-growing practice?

Interested in taking on more advisory work outside of day-to-day portfolio management?

If so, we have the perfect role for you!

H&C Accounting is an ACCA registered accountancy and tax consultancy. We work with various clients and offer the very best in accountancy, tax, payroll, and business advisory services.

In as little as five years, we have amassed a portfolio of around 950 clients. We are proud to have won almost half of them through referrals, with two recent acquisitions of a smaller accountancy and a payroll bureau accelerating our growth further.

The portfolio is made up of a mix of smaller businesses and startups with monthly recurring fixed fee and project-based arrangements. Our standard service includes essential offerings such as company accounts, VAT returns, payroll, personal tax returns, and more.

This is complemented by an increasing volume of more complex tailored packages to start-ups and growing businesses. This is an exciting area of growth that we intend to focus on more over time.

Tasks

In the role of Client Manager, you will manage a portfolio consisting of approximately 150 clients, consisting of monthly fixed fee, annual limited company and personal tax clients. You can expect to be in contact with circa 50 or so on a regular basis.

While this is a management position, you will remain hands-on, working with our clients directly. You will be responsible for reviewing annual accounts, corporation tax compliance, VAT Returns, personal tax returns, and general tax planning for your portfolio.

We use Bright Manager for practice management, TaxCalc for company accounts and tax compliance, and Xero for bookkeeping (though we support all modern online bookkeeping platforms).

You’ll assign work to the team and act as an escalation point to support them whenever needed.

You will also see scope for more ad-hoc projects, such as advisory work spanning management accounts, forecasting, company re-organisations, capital gains tax, inheritance tax advice, and more!

Requirements

Ideally, you will be a fully qualified ACCA/ACA accountant, but we are happy to consider people who are part-qualified too.

Most important to us is the recent experience of working in a general practice environment, including having previously managed a portfolio of clients providing similar services.

You’ll need to build strong relationships, so we’ll want to hear about a time you won over a difficult client.

Whilst you will have the support of an already effective team, we will want to understand how you have helped underperforming team members or colleagues through coaching and mentoring in your previous role.

We encourage our team to make suggestions for improvements and influence our tools, processes, and working practices. We’ll want to hear about a time you have identified an area for improvement or made a suggestion that led to an improvement for either the team or clients.

You must be experienced with modern accounting software such as Xero, Quickbooks, FreeAgent or similar, but we’re happy to help you skill up where needed.

Experience working with Bright Manager and/or TaxCalc would be beneficial.

Benefits

We’re a relatively new business, but we’re continuing to grow fast, so you’ll have the room you need to succeed and the freedom to make things happen.

You will be a key part of the growth of our practice in general. As our client base and team grow, we expect this to lead to a more senior position in the future.

The portfolio you’ll manage has some great companies to work with and plenty of interesting challenges to tackle.

We’ll be happy to support any relevant qualifications that you are pursuing, including gaining a practising certificate (if relevant).

Fully remote UK working, flexible working schedules, £1,000 equipment budget, company socials, health cover, company pension, 20 days holiday (5 day carry over), plus bank holidays.

Apply now for immediate consideration.
