Functional Skills Maths Teacher
Salary: Up to £39,340 (pay award pending) - per annum, plus a £2,500 'Golden Hello' incentive to be paid in two instalments across the first year of employment - depending on experience
Hours: Full time - part time considered

We are looking for an enthusiastic FS Maths Lecturer to join our dynamic teaching team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students and help them unlock their potential in the world of mathematics.

You will be part of a highly successful team of dedicated Maths staff delivering GCSE and Functional Skills Maths at Nelson and Colne College along with inspiring your students to achieve their best. You'll be involved in every aspect of course planning, including developing schemes of work, lesson plans, and teaching resources, all while building strong relationships with your learners. Your efforts will contribute to improving student retention, attendance, and success rates, and you'll play a key role in shaping the curriculum to best meet students' needs.

Nelson and Colne College Group is 'Powered by Maths and English'. Part of our core strategic intent is to ensure that our learners are English and maths enabled and subsequently there is whole college approach to - and ownership of - English and maths. All Functional Maths teachers are well-qualified and have expert knowledge of the subject and we also continue to invest in teachers' ongoing professional development. You will be joining a team of dedicated, innovative and highly-successful subject-experts who achieve remarkable things.

In particular, the Maths division aims to:

  • Provide a highly ambitious curriculum which inspires students to achieve their very best and which supports them to aim high and reach the extraordinary.
  • Ensure a high-quality maths provision with excellent teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Support students to achieve excellent outcomes in maths, supporting them to progress onto their next steps.

The successful candidate will be primarily based at Nelson campus but may be required to travel across sites.

This post could suit an experienced practitioner looking for their next challenge, or a newly qualified teacher looking to make their mark within an Outstanding organisation.

Depending on your previous experience additional incentives may be available;

  • If you are new to FE or in the first five years of your FE teaching career you may be eligible to receive a targeted retention incentive payment of up to £6,000.00 paid directly to you in addition to your salary.


What You Will Be Doing:
Plan, deliver and assess Functional Skills Maths learners on 16-19 study programmes. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic practitioner who promotes and upholds the same high expectations as the College and its students. With a focus on sharing good practice, they will be committed to their own continuous professional development and will engage enthusiastically with our quality processes to ensure that our students receive an Outstanding experience.

What We Are Looking For:

  • The successful candidate will have a real passion for teaching Maths and be enthusiastic about all aspects of their teaching practice.
  • Hold a recognised teaching qualification
  • Hold a degree level qualification
  • Have experience in delivering either Functional Skills and/or GCSE Maths in a further education college, sixth form or secondary school setting.
