An exciting opportunity exists for progressive forward-thinking ENP/ECP and ANPs to join our high-performing enthusiastic team in the Urgent Treatment Centre collocated to the Emergency Department at the Royal London Hospital site. We are proud to be rated GOOD by the CQC and consistently achieve above 95% for the 4 hour KPI.

We have strong Emergency Department backgrounds as well as primary care and are committed to primary and secondary care working collaboratively. For the successful candidates, we will support continued professional development through clinical team meetings/training in the UTC/university-based modules.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is an experienced clinician who, acting within their professional boundaries, will work flexibly and collaboratively with other members of the UTC team to provide care for the presenting patient. This will include initial history taking, clinical assessment, forming differential diagnosis, interpreting investigations where required and planning treatment with the patient which may include self-care or referral to specialty teams.

The role will initially be face to face within the UTC; however, there is also opportunity to provide safe clinical decision making and expert care over the telephone working from home taking NHS 111 Direct booking calls for UTC streamed patients.

For interested clinicians, there would be opportunities to progress to becoming an Advanced Clinical Practitioner following the 4 pillars of advanced practice.

Job responsibilities

Clinical

  • Use holistic patient assessment skills of adults and children so that clinical decision making will ensure prompt and appropriate action in the best interest of the patients/families well being.
  • Undertake assessment of their health and presenting complaint, diagnosing, treating, giving advice and discharging or referring patients to other health professionals including the GP and specialty on-call teams according to protocols.
  • Request and interpret X-rays and blood tests if clinically appropriate.
  • Act as an effective role model, through the application of skills to patient care and acting as advisor to the wider MDT.
  • Work under pressure in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Prescribe medications under own professional scope of practice and within the formulary acknowledging own professional boundaries.
  • Keep accurate and immediate records of every enquiry including assessment and advice regarding patient care using both CRS and Adastra.
  • Encourage patients to carry out self-care as appropriate through effective communication and health care advice.

Professional

  • Be responsible and accountable for all the patients on own caseload, seeking guidance from the Clinical Lead GP when clinically appropriate.
  • Maintain own professional development. Identify any training needs and attend relevant courses necessary to ensure best practice.
  • Keep up to date with current developments in patient care and evidence-based practice.
  • Work within all policies, protocols and guidelines of the UTC and THGPCG.
  • Ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times including the storage of records and the transfer of verbal and written information.
  • Work within multidisciplinary care teams promoting good communication with the Trust and hospital staff, statutory and voluntary agencies.
  • Ensure that patients and carers who face language barriers are helped to understand and make use of the service available. Take into account cultural belief and values of the patient.
  • Identify any safeguarding issues patients may have and act on the information.
Person Specification
Experience
  • Evidence of relevant post-registration professional development
  • Experience in minor injury and/or minor illness preferably in Urgent Treatment Centre or Emergency Department
Skills and Abilities
  • Able to prescribe medications under scope of practice according to formulary or using Patient Group Directives
Qualifications
  • MSC level Minor Injury course and/or minor illness.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of current clinical evidence based practice related to the Urgent Care Setting
