We are pleased to be recruiting a Project Accountant into our organisation.

This will be a critical role, providing financial oversight and control for project budgets and expenditures. The Project Accountant will be responsible for managing financial aspects of projects, ensuring compliance with funding requirements, and supporting accurate financial reporting.

This is a full time position.

What the role is

Reporting to the Communities Manager, the Our Heritage, Our Future Project Support Officer will support the project team in delivering a programme of place-based cultural heritage activity as part of the Our Heritage, Our Future: Community, Climate and Heritage Action project.

This project will provide a multi-faceted, community-based approach within communities and across heritage sites throughout Scotland, with the core aims of:

1. Taking action to conserve and enhance historic monuments,
2. Engaging with communities to bring heritage to life,
3. Raising awareness of the importance of conserving heritage, and the benefits heritage can provide for individuals,
4. Using heritage as a means to enhance a shared sense of place and purpose, and
5. Creating a lasting legacy of ownership and ongoing heritage conservation.

This is a Fixed Term Appointment to 31 March 2026.

What you’ll need to have

We are looking for someone with an interest in Scotland’s historic environment and community engagement.

You will have experience of administration processes and procedures, ideally in the areas of project monitoring and evaluation, creating and maintaining records, to support the delivery of our ambitious programme.

WildFish is a charity dedicated to conserving wild fish and their aquatic habitats.

We are looking for a bright and experienced individual, a self-starter with experience of leading high-profile campaigns, to join our team in an exciting new phase of our work to rein in the damaging impacts of salmon farming. You will lead the charity’s Off the table campaign (offthetable.org.uk).

A passion for improving wild fish populations and aquatic habitats is essential. Knowledge of sustainable food systems and the hospitality sector would be a plus. You'll play a pivotal role in amplifying our voice in the media and driving awareness of the critical issues facing wild fish populations.

Key Responsibilities

• Helping to develop, manage and drive forward the Off the table (OTT) campaign and communications.
• Building links and partnerships with external stakeholders in the hospitality sector, media, charity/voluntary sector and government.
• Maintaining a suite of communication aides, including website, hard copy and/or digital communications, images, video, film – to support the narrative.
• Acting as a campaign spokesperson, in the media and at conferences (this may include international travel).
• Working with our campaigning team to increase awareness of the damaging impacts and unsustainability of salmon farming.
• Supporting with investigations/research into salmon farming industry in Scotland.

Personal Requirements

• Demonstrable experience of running a multi-stakeholder campaign with successful outcomes.
• A confident communicator, with excellent written and verbal communication skills, who is comfortable talking to a diverse range of stakeholders with different interests, perspectives and personalities.
• Prepared to take the initiative and manage own workload, reacting to shifting priorities as required.
• Able to travel around UK and occasionally internationally.
• IT skills (Microsoft Office, GIS, website management, social media) and project planning, organisation and delivery experience.
• Academic training or equivalent practical experience in a relevant environmental/ biological discipline.
• Experience of digital campaigning.

Lochaber Environmental Group (LEG) is charity working on a local scale to benefit people and the environment, which has been in existence since 2000. We run a wide range of projects to help people to reduce their environmental impact and bring our communities together. We have delivered projects covering energy efficiency, active travel, local food, reducing waste/encouraging recycling, repair cafes and composting and have developed a community hydro electric scheme in Glenachulish. LEG works in partnership with many local, regional and national organisations to reduce duplication and increase our reach and effectiveness.

Due to the community hydro scheme, it has now become possible to employ a manager to lead the organisation and increase its effectiveness. The Manager will oversee the general day to day running of the organisation with oversight of staff and overall responsibility for promotion, networking and development. They will be expected to lead new projects.

LEG is currently in transition as a 3 year project on waste finishes. This leaves 4 part time members of staff and some very active volunteers. LEG occupies an open plan office at An Drochaid in Claggan and a cabin and container at Claggan Park. We are exploring the possibility of bringing the whole operation together under one roof and the successful candidate would be a key player in this development.

Specific responsibilities of the role

1. Overall responsibility for organisation, while leaving lead staff to work on their own projects.
2. Liaison with the board in developing strategy and prioritising activity.
3. Staff management including reviews of lead staff and recruitment.
4. Fund raising and budgeting in conjunction with volunteer treasurer and book keeper.
5. Develop and lead new projects including supporting project officers with funding applications, monitoring and reporting as required.
6. Represent LEG in the local communities and at appropriate regional networks.
7. Oversee the organisation’s policies and procedures.

General responsibilities

2. Work as part of the LEG team to promote and encourage understanding of environmental issues and opportunities in Lochaber.
3. Promote the work of LEG within the local community and encourage membership.
