What is our client looking for?

Our client, a London-based InsurTech startup, is seeking a Senior Fullstack Product Engineer (Founding Engineer) to drive the technical direction and product strategy alongside the founder and fractional CTO. This is a high-impact role that blends engineering, product design, and leadership, offering a unique opportunity to shape both the platform’s architecture and the future growth of the technical team.

As a Founding Engineer, you will take full ownership of the product development lifecycle, ensuring the platform is scalable, secure, and aligned with the company’s long-term vision. There will also be a focus on developing AI-driven innovations (ML, LLM, OCR), including an AI-powered valuation tool, a key differentiator in the insurance market. This role is a blend of product ownership and hands-on development, ideal for an entrepreneurial-minded person. You will be happy to get into the detail and execute, whilst keeping an eye on the big picture. This is a fully remote position with occasional travel for team meet-ups.

Responsibilities:

1. Define the long-term technical vision and ensure the platform aligns with the company's business objectives.
2. Work across both the front end customer facing app, and the back end operational systems.
3. Get involved in product work, coming up with features autonomously, through customer feedback and analysing usage data.
4. Work closely with the founder, fractional CTO and other team members to drive innovation.
5. Manage GitHub repositories, oversee CI/CD pipelines, and coordinate with an external development agency in Bratislava.
6. Act as a “mini-CTO”, mentoring future team members and helping build the engineering function.

Who you are:

1. A seasoned full stack engineer with experience in cloud architecture, cybersecurity, and AI-driven applications.
2. A self-starter with a product mindset, comfortable taking full ownership of technical decisions.
3. Experience in insurance or fintech is a big plus.
4. Strong knowledge of monitoring tools and DevOps best practices.
5. Entrepreneurial, comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment.
6. Fluent in English, with excellent communication skills to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
7. Open to occasional travel to London or for team meet-ups.

Experience and skill requirements:

1. 5+ years of experience in fullstack development.
2. Experience in implementing and managing APIs.
3. Experience with CI/CD pipelines and GitHub repository management.
4. Strong problem-solving skills with a proven track record of building scalable, secure solutions.
5. Passion for AI-driven technologies and automation tools.
