Interim Financial Accountant - Fixed Asset Focus

Reading Area - Hybrid Working

We are working with a well-known, rapidly expanding company based in Reading to find them an Interim Fixed Asset Accountant / Expert.

We are looking for someone who knows how to set up a new fixed asset function for a brilliant business. (Transformation and change needed, system is NetSuite)

This is an exciting opportunity to help transform the fixed asset function, improve internal controls, and drive the company’s financial growth while maintaining accurate reporting and compliance with UK accounting standards.

As part of a growing and dynamic team, you will play a pivotal role in managing all aspects of fixed asset accounting, collaborating with the wider business, and supporting key financial processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fixed Asset Register & Reporting: Oversee the management of the Fixed Asset Register (FAR), ensuring it is consolidated on a period-by-period basis. Play a key role in supporting the year-end process and ensuring accurate reconciliations.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting Support: Collaborate with the finance team to provide valuable input into budgeting and forecasting for fixed assets, helping to ensure the company’s financial planning is accurate and well-informed.
  • Asset Additions & Disposals: Manage the full lifecycle of fixed assets, processing additions, disposals, and transfers in line with company policies. Ensure accurate documentation and compliance to support financial reporting and auditing requirements.
  • Risk Mitigation & Audit Compliance: Actively mitigate risks related to fixed asset management, particularly around documentation for audit purposes. Ensure that the correct procedures are followed for audit sampling and support audit activities to maintain transparency.
  • Internal Controls & Process Improvements: Strengthen internal controls around fixed asset transactions, ensuring the function operates efficiently and adheres to financial regulations. Identify areas for process improvement and implement changes to drive operational excellence.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with various departments, particularly procurement and operations, to ensure smooth integration of capital expenditure processes across the business. Foster strong working relationships to ensure fixed asset decisions are aligned with business needs.
  • Ad-Hoc Requests & Reporting: Be proactive in dealing with ad-hoc requests related to fixed asset management. Provide timely and accurate reports as required by senior stakeholders, offering insights into asset performance and trends.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Qualified Accountant (CIMA, ACCA, or equivalent) with extensive experience in fixed asset accounting and management.
  • Fixed Asset Experience: Proven experience in the transaction, control, and management of all aspects of fixed assets, from additions to disposals, across multiple asset classes.
  • Strong Knowledge of UK Accounting Standards: Solid understanding of UK accounting regulations (FRS 102, FRS 101) and how they relate to fixed asset reporting.
  • Advanced Excel Skills: High proficiency in Excel, including advanced functions for data analysis and reporting.
  • Finance System Management: Experience with finance systems (NetSuite) and asset management software, including system integration and improving internal controls around fixed asset management.
  • Communication & Presentation Skills: Excellent communication and presentation abilities, with the capacity to liaise effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Proactive & Solution-Oriented: A proactive, positive attitude with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, consistently seeking solutions to drive improvements and meet business objectives.
