Job description

Location: Pandemic Sciences Institute, Building for Genomic Medicine, Old Road Campus, Oxford, OX3 7BN. Additional location: Institute for Developmental and Regenerative Medicine, Old Road Campus, Roosevelt, Headington, Oxford, OX3 7TY.

Salary: Standard Grade 8: Salary in range £48,235 - £57,255 per annum (pro rata). This is inclusive of a pensionable Oxford University Weighting of £1,500 per year (pro rata).

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Bioinformatician specializing in vaccinology, lymph node biology, and immunology to participate in and coordinate the analysis for the MechRNA project to join Dr Nicholas Provine’s group at Pandemic Science Institute, Nuffield Department of Medicine.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct detailed analysis of multi-modal single-cell data and other next generation sequencing and imaging datasets.
  2. Identify, define, and plan new projects that contribute to the overall aims of the projects.
  3. Develop and use novel methodologies for interrogating and integrating datasets.
  4. Create, test, and implement version-controlled computer code as required.
  5. Prepare manuscripts for publications on bioinformatics.
  6. Keep detailed and comprehensible records of your work.
  7. Take leadership in more specialised publications.

Qualifications:

  1. PhD in Bioinformatics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or other related computational subject.
  2. Experience in the analysis of single-cell RNA-seq data, including CITE-seq and V(D)J sequencing data.
  3. Proficiency with a high-level programming language (Python, R) and appropriate scripting languages.
  4. Strong publication record demonstrating high-calibre analytical outputs.
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to supervise and train other team members.
  6. Desirable: Experience studying vaccine responses in immunocompromised individuals and practical experience in the preparation of single-cell sequencing libraries and spectral cytometry samples.
