Job Description:

The opportunity:

Leonardo UK are looking for an experienced Reliability/FMEA Engineer to support the development, analysis, and improvement of Radar and Advanced Targeting systems and components. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in reliability engineering, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and risk management with an understanding of aerospace industry standards and regulatory requirements. This role offers the opportunity to work on innovative aerospace projects and contribute to ensuring the safety, efficiency, and longevity of our products.

As a Senior/Principal Supportability Engineer you will operate as part of one of our Integrated Project Teams and work in either our Surveillance Radar or Electro Optics product lines.

You will be responsible for:

  • Lead and conduct Reliability, Maintainability, and FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) studies on aerospace systems and components.
  • Perform root cause analysis and provide recommendations for design improvements based on FMEA results.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Hardware, Software, Systems, Quality Assurance, etc.) to ensure reliability and risk management are integral to the design process.
  • Support reliability testing and validation activities, analysing data to identify potential areas for improvement.
  • Prepare and present technical reports and findings to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain compliance with aerospace industry standards (MIL-STD) and other relevant certifications and regulations.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of reliability prediction models, tools, and methodologies.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and ensure that reliability and FMEA methodologies align with best practices and current industry trends.
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to junior engineers as part of team development and help to grow and develop the Supportability community and core skills base.

What we need from you:

  • Ideally, you will have a degree, preferably in a relevant engineering or science discipline and have either worked in industry, defence or have other relevant experience.

If you have any experience in the following areas, we would be keen to hear from you and we favour behaviours and experience over a specific toolset.

  • Working knowledge of RMT analysis techniques on electronic, power, RF, and mixed technology systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with reliability prediction tools (e.g., Weibull analysis, MTBF, fault tree analysis).
  • Failure Modes Effects & Criticality Analysis (FMEA/FMECA) on electronic components/circuits from component level through to system level covering power circuits, analogue, RF and digital assemblies.
  • Creation of beneficial relationships with cross functional colleagues, customers and suppliers with a proactive approach to risk management.

Our team use: PTC Windchill Risk and Reliability; Reliasoft; OPUS; Simlox; Matlab / Simulink; Jira and Python and although expertise is not essential, familiarity with some would be beneficial.

Security Clearance:

You must be eligible for full security clearance. For more information and guidance please visit: UK Security Vetting Clearance Levels.
