Job description

This is an opportunity for you to truly have the support to shape the standards of care provided in a locally owned and run practice supporting the local community.

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly team at Lichfield, Vets4Pets in Staffordshire. The role is within a relatively new practice with a team who work well within the wider group and their clients. Many of the team have been here since the doors opened and work hard to maintain a positive environment. Tudor, our experienced vet, has been with the Group across different practices and settled in Lichfield, as it’s a nice part of the country. He has an interest in soft tissues surgery, ophthalmology, and internal medicine. The team enjoy Lichfield as it provides all the benefits of Birmingham within a beautiful ecclesiastical centre, that has avoided industrial and commercial development with over 230 listed buildings (including many examples of Georgian architecture) and preserves much of its historic character.

Our Head Nurse Lesley started her career as a Riding Instructor but changed direction and trained as a Veterinary Nurse who has worked across GP, referral practices, and emergency hospitals. She thrives on building great relationships with the practice clients. Lesley loves theatre, monitoring anaesthetics, and Nurse Clinics where she gets to know her clients on a personal level.

Our practice owner Gabriel would agree the clinic's main strength is being run and owned by local people delivering the best practice possible for the local community of Lichfield and surrounds. This offers the team the opportunity to personalise the care on offer and ensures that each member of the team has a real voice in how care is delivered to their patients enabling a real “proud to be part of the team” work ethos. As an experienced vet, you will be the role model for your clinical team and be motivated to develop individuals to reach their own full potential.

Being based within a Pets at Home store, we have an excellent relationship with these colleagues as well and benefit from collaborative working. Parking is easy as we are on a retail park, with a variety of shops locally and a fully equipped gym which our team can get discounted membership.

The ideal vet to join us will be:

  1. A keen team player
  2. Possessing excellent communication skills
  3. Capable of building great relationships with our clients and their pets
  4. Confident in routine surgical and medical cases
  5. Comfortable with sole charge

What makes this role different for you!

You will also be pivotal to the practice, truly shaping the standards within the practice and putting your stamp on how care for your patients is provided. This is a full-time role and will be for 40 hours per week. There are no out-of-hours commitments, allowing you to rest and recharge. However, we are passionate about allowing people to create a work-life balance that suits them, so if you are looking at a more flexible working arrangement please get in touch as we will be happy to discuss this.

In addition to a rewarding role in a superb location which has excellent transport links, you can also expect to receive:

  • Competitive salary of up to £55,000 (dependent on experience)
  • No out of hours allowing for a healthy work/life balance.
  • Discussion open around holidays
  • Paid professional memberships including RCVS and VDS
  • Dedicated CPD allowance including funding towards Certificates and 5 paid days to attend as a minimum
  • Life assurance 4 x annual salary
  • Colleague reward hub – exclusive offers and discounts online and on the high street, including 20% off at Pets at Home, Vets4Pets and the Groom Room

What you can offer us:

Sharing our passion and commitment for high standards will ensure you thrive within this role. With a confident and capable approach, the team would love someone who could bring new ideas and ambition to the team, as they are always looking for ways to improve. As a Practice, we are inclusive, embracing a supportive and non-judgemental environment.

You will support the JVP in providing clinical leadership to our vets and working alongside the existing locally based leadership team to enhance a productive and positive work environment and culture. We are looking for an experienced team player, who will be enthusiastic and self-motivated. You will have great communication, general surgical and medical skills and a desire to support and develop others.

Location: WS13 6GB

Pets just see people. They aren’t biased and they don’t discriminate. We take our inspiration from pets, and we value and respect difference in all its forms. Our aim is to reflect the diversity of the communities we operate in, and every colleague can help us achieve this. We encourage our people to be themselves so even if your skills and experience don’t perfectly align, if you think you can make a unique contribution through your values and behaviours, we want to hear from you!
