Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Occupational Therapy stroke services in Cwm Taf Morgannwg. We have a rare post for a static Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our stroke inpatient team.

We need a dynamic practitioner with a passion for inpatient acute working, with a special interest in stroke and a clear focus on timely discharge/rapid discharges of patients to their own homes.

This post will offer you the opportunity to develop your stroke clinical skills in a fast-paced dynamic inpatient service whilst also developing your leadership and management skills in a supportive environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with the MDT, Principal OT, Discharge Liaison Team and Local Authorities to ensure effective cross boundary and agency working to support the D2RA model within Cwm Taf Morgannwg.

The stroke services is temporarily based in the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Llantrisant, however this may be subject to change.

Main duties of the job

To provide specialist stroke Occupational Therapy assessment, intervention and rehabilitation to patients to ensure improved functional recovery, prompt discharge and to enable the person to remain in their home.

You will provide supervision and support to junior members of the team and student Occupational Therapists and have a passion for delivering evidence-based, quality intervention using research, audit and quality improvement projects. The post holder will be flexible to service needs, possess excellent self-management skills and administer their caseload efficiently to ensure effective intervention focused on preventing avoidable admissions, rehabilitation and efficient discharge planning, depending on setting.

We are looking for a candidate that is motivated, enthusiastic with exceptional communication and people skills.

Essential
  • Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • Post graduate training/accreditation in fieldwork education
  • Knowledge and understanding of factors which can influence discharge planning including: cognitive, physical, psychological and cultural
  • Registered member of HCPC
Desirable
  • Post-graduate training relevant to area
Experience

Essential
  • Post graduate clinical experience in area of physical medicine
  • Experience of service delivery in a variety of different clinical physical health settings
  • Experience of research and audit
  • Experience of supervision
  • Clinical experiences within stroke services
Desirable
  • Experience of presenting information to a variety of audiences
  • Awareness of current professional issues
  • Ability to use reflective practice
