Job description

Summary
Fairfield Hospital is looking to help a new apprentice develop a career in accounting. This is a great opportunity for keen minds to learn with a young team of enthusiastic colleagues who can help a new apprentice by guiding them into this new role and offering rich and in-depth learning.

Annual wage: £12,480 a year
Minimum wage rates (opens in new tab)

Training course: Accounts or finance assistant (level 2)

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9.00am - 5.00pm, 37 hours a week

Possible start date: Monday 25 November

Duration: 1 year

Work
As an apprentice, you'll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You'll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you'll do at work
Daily tasks include but are not limited to:

  1. Assisting the Hospital's Financial Accountant with the daily bank reconciliation
  2. Producing regular reports of Excel data (activity, finance, etc.)
  3. Reconciling the Hospital's credit card on a monthly basis
  4. Supporting the Hospital's Business Manager with the monthly consultants payment
  5. Being professional, polite, and accurate in all communication from Business Office including but not limited to letters, emails, and telephone calls
  6. Posting daily journals
  7. Liaising with and forming working relationships with staff, both clinical and clerical, within the organisation and with other members of Business Office
  8. Producing consistent, accurate, timely, permanent, economical, and effective minutes of any meetings requested
  9. Filing and logging minutes in a structured fashion to allow audit trail and ease of searching and retrieval
  10. Scanning all relevant documents onto the Hospital's shared drive
  11. Documenting new or revised policies and procedures within own work area
The applicant may also carry out any other reasonable duties commensurate with the role and delegated or requested by the manager, as the needs of the service require.

Your training course
Accounts or finance assistant (level 2), equal to GCSE
Course contents:
  1. Record transactional data.
  2. Use the organisation's standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  3. Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  4. Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  5. Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  6. Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  7. Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
Your training plan
  1. You will be working towards an AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting (level 2)
  2. Training will be at St Helens College Town Centre Campus, one day a week (term time only)
