Position Description

Due to continued expansion and company growth, an excellent opportunity has arisen for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to work in the Chiller Product Development department at Airedale, reporting into the Lead Mechanical Engineer. It involves working closely with a team of mechanical, electrical, controls, manufacturing and quality engineers to design and develop new chiller products whilst maintaining the existing portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

1. The role consists of working as part of a team to develop new product design projects in accordance with APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) and relevant SOM guidelines from concept through to full product launch.
2. You will support the Lead Mechanical Engineer where necessary and as a team will be responsible for creating design briefs for companywide approval, performance predictions, hitting cost targets, designing products with manufacturing and assembly in mind to allow labour targets to be met, project timescales, technical features, training and all critical deliverables.
3. Carrying out engineering calculations.
4. Creating performance prediction programs.
5. Acoustic performance calculations.
6. Selecting and specifying critical components to fulfil a design brief.
7. Water system design and pump selection.
8. Heat exchanger optimisation and knowledge of plate heat exchangers.
9. Interface with Electrical Design, Controls, Research and Laboratory teams.
10. Creating 3D models, layout drawings and schematics.
11. Structuring Bills of Material.
12. Implementing component upgrades on existing standard product ranges.
13. Working to deadlines & cost requirements.
14. An understanding of the following would be beneficial:
15. Air system design and fan selection.
16. Refrigeration system design and component selection.
17. Fin and tube coil design.

Required Education & Qualifications

1. Degree Qualified in an Engineering discipline or relevant Science based subject.
2. Good theoretical and practical understanding of thermodynamics.
3. In particular vapour compression cycle and pressure enthalpy diagrams.
4. Good theoretical and practical understanding of fluid mechanics.
5. Be able to work under own initiative.
6. Be able to learn quickly and think laterally.
7. Be able to work in a team and manage projects to completion.
8. Be able to communicate effectively at all levels.
9. Experience of 3D modelling and 2D drafting.
10. Refrigeration and waterside schematic experience ideal.

o MS Word
o MS Excel and VBA
o Solid Edge
o AutoCAD 2D
o Siemens Teamcentre PLM
