Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced midwife to join the senior leadership team at Saint Mary's Hospital, Central Manchester.

You will need to be able to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a driving passion and determination to support the senior midwifery team in line with the exciting national picture of care and compassion, as well as a local picture of quality improvement. The successful candidates will need to have good knowledge and skill base of both midwifery clinical practice and local leadership.
In this role you will manage a team of midwives and develop practice as a midwifery expert; providing advice to colleagues in the organisation and working in partnership with a range of other agencies.

In this key role you will work closely with the Matrons and Deputy Head of Midwifery and will have access to a bespoke development plan. The role also requires holding the senior midwife bleep.

Main duties of the job
  1. Work autonomously within trust policy, national and local guidelines, and within own scope of professional practice.
  2. Provide effective professional support to all colleagues in maternity services.
  3. Help to develop, deliver, implement, evaluate and modify individualised plans of care, ensuring appropriate pathways of care.
  4. Recognise the need for referral to other agencies as required.
  5. Evaluate local services against national standards/recommendations to ensure we deliver evidenced based care and best practice including establishing and implement protocols and guidelines for the trust.
  6. Participate in research and clinical audit in own specialist area.
  7. To work as a lone practitioner without the support of nursing/medical colleagues.
  8. Support in delivering education and training to other staff and students, including medical staff on all aspects of intrapartum care.
  9. To comply with the statutory requirements of NMC registration.
  10. Accountable for own professional actions.
