An established industry player is seeking a dedicated Viral Hepatitis Nurse Specialist to enhance the testing and care pathways for HIV and hepatitis C in the Emergency Department. To work towards zero new HIV infections and hepatitis C elimination by 2025, this post will be instrumental in introducing and sustaining HIV and viral hepatitis testing in the Emergency Department at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trusts (UHDB) as well as tracking any positive patients and linking them into the relevant care pathways.
To work in collaboration with Hepatology, Sexual Health and HIV, Emergency Department, Microbiology, Urgent and Emergency Care, and Health Improvement Collaborative teams to implement blood borne virus (BBV) opt-out testing within the Emergency Department at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trusts.
Have responsibility for, and oversight of the electronic pathology weekly report that records all BBV tests performed in ED to ensure linkage to care following admission or discharge where appropriate.
To work with the Viral Hepatitis Data Manager to submit reports to NHS England and the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR).
