Skills and Competencies

  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience in communications, public relations, and/or journalism; background in financial services preferred.
  • Strong storytelling mindset with the ability to think creatively and connect related issues into compelling narratives; experience in influencer outreach and video/podcast production is preferred.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills, with a confident on-screen presence and the ability to advise and influence business partners effectively.
  • Detail-oriented and calm under pressure, with strong time management, a positive attitude, accountability, and adaptability to change.
  • Comfortable working in Microsoft Teams/Office 365, specifically using Co-Pilot, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and SharePoint Software.
  • English proficiency is essential; business fluency in German or Spanish (B2 level or higher) preferred.

Education

  • Undergraduate degree in journalism, business/economics or related topics preferred.

Responsibilities

The Communications Strategist contributes to external and internal communications projects that drive Moody’s thought leadership and enhance its brand and reputation.

  • Primarily supports the execution of media outreach strategies to help achieve business goals, developing and refining communications tactics and materials.
  • Develops media outreach plans and related media content (e.g. Q&As, key messages) to promote the line of business or rating group's thought leadership. Proactively pitches story ideas, Moody’s spokesperson commentary, and thought leadership to relevant media contacts; identifies opportunities for media interviews, earned speaking engagements, and other media-related activities.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets.
  • Responds to media inquiries promptly and effectively, ensuring accurate coverage.
  • Monitors, analyzes, and reports on media coverage.
  • Contributes to the planning and execution of employee communications and events tailored to the EMEA region.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to align communication efforts with marketing, branding, public relations, and investor relations activities.
  • Occasional weekend/out of hours cover for media relations inbox/phone line is required.

About the team

Our External Communications Team is responsible for positioning Moody’s as a leading provider of insights on risk in the media and other stakeholders. Acting as a strategic partner to groups within the company, the External Communications team drives Moody’s thought leadership and enhances its brand and reputation. By joining our team, you will be part of exciting work in the External Communications / Global Corporate Affairs Team as an integral part of Moody’s Shared Services, the branch of Moody’s responsible for providing professional services to support the success of our global businesses.
