The Oxford Department of International Development (ODID) invites applications for the post of Departmental Lecturer in Migration and Development. This is a fixed-term role for one academic year needed to cover the maternity leave of one member of the teaching team of the MSc in Migration Studies, a degree jointly run by ODID and Oxford’s School of Anthropology (SAME).
- Teaching on the MSc in Migration Studies degree, including one core course to approximately 30 students (Migration and Development) and one optional course (10-15 students) based on research specialisation and complementarity with other courses.
- Supervising 4-5 MSc students.
- Engaging in university examining and assessment.
- Participating in the graduate student admissions process.
- Participating in all aspects of the administration of the MSc in Migration Studies.
- Managing own academic research activities.
This post is offered full time and fixed term for 12 months beginning in September 2025. The successful applicant will hold a PhD/DPhil in a relevant social science discipline, with a strong focus on migration or other forms of human mobility. They will also have the requisite experience to instruct high-achieving and challenging graduate students in a multi-disciplinary environment including student assessments, examinations, and course design. A strong knowledge of issues relevant to migration studies, and the ability to lead a course on migration and development are essential for this role.
