Job description

We are seeking an experienced Cyber Security Project Lead to direct the delivery of complex cyber security initiatives within the UK Defence sector. In this role, you will influence cross-functional teams, ensure timely and efficient project delivery, and uphold the highest standards of security in support of national defence objectives.

Requirements

Project Leadership:

  1. Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of cyber security projects, ensuring alignment with client and organisational objectives.
  2. Oversee project scope, timelines, budgets, and resources, delivering results within defined constraints.
  3. Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, risk registers, and progress reports.

Cyber Security Oversight:
  1. Collaborate with technical teams to design and implement robust security solutions tailored to the UK Defence environment.
  2. Ensure that all deliverables meet compliance standards, including MOD and NCSC guidelines, ISO 27001, GDPR, and Cyber Essentials.
  3. Assess cyber risks and threats throughout the project lifecycle and implement effective mitigation strategies.

Team Management and Collaboration:
  1. Lead multidisciplinary teams comprising engineers, analysts, and third-party vendors, ensuring cohesive collaboration and clear communication.
  2. Act as the primary point of contact for our clients, stakeholders, and senior leadership, providing regular updates on project status and outcomes.
  3. Drive a culture of excellence, accountability, and innovation within project teams.

Stakeholder Engagement:
  1. Build strong relationships with UK Government, MOD, intelligence agencies, and industry partners to ensure seamless collaboration and project alignment.
  2. Represent the organisation in client and stakeholder meetings, promoting confidence in the organisation's cyber security expertise.

Continuous Improvement:
  1. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance project delivery and cyber security outcomes.
  2. Stay updated on emerging threats, technologies, and best practices, applying insights to improve project strategies.

Skills and Experience:

Essential:
  1. Proven experience leading cyber security projects, ideally within the defence, government, or other highly regulated sectors.
  2. Strong understanding of project management methodologies such as PRINCE2, Agile, or PMP.
  3. Deep knowledge of cyber security frameworks, technologies, and standards relevant to UK Defence (e.g., NCSC, Cyber Essentials, ISO 27001).
  4. Familiarity with risk management practices and secure system design principles.
  5. Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and guide diverse teams.
  6. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including experience engaging with senior decision-makers.

Desirable:
  1. Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CEH, or SABSA.
  2. Experience with defence procurement frameworks and security clearance processes (e.g., SC, DV).
  3. Technical expertise in areas such as network security, penetration testing, or incident response.
