Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Communications and Marketing Officer to join the Hospice team!

The Hospice will be marking its 40th anniversary next year and is experiencing an exciting phase of growth. As Communications and Marketing Officer, you will play a pivotal role by planning and delivering highly impactful marketing and communication campaigns for the income generation teams.

Main duties of the job

Your Main Duties Will Include:

  1. Plan, implement, deliver and analyse communication and marketing campaigns in support of the Hospice's fundraising and retail activity.
  2. Create and write engaging and compelling content which will be used across a variety of on and offline channels to educate donors and supporters about the breadth of our services and how they can support us.
  3. Manage and update the Hospice's website, ensuring our brand and tone is consistent throughout.
  4. Build strong relationships with key stakeholders both internally and externally.

You will have the following experience in marketing and communications:

  1. Planning and developing engaging content for print and digital channels
  2. Managing social media channels and using audience insights
  3. Experience of using analytical tools such as Google Analytics

You Will Also Have:

  1. Proven experience in a similar role
  2. Strong organisational and planning skills including being able to prioritise your workload to hit deadlines
  3. Excellent communication skills and be able to communicate within all levels within the Hospice and patients, families, supporters and external agencies

This role will primarily work Monday - Friday however there will be a requirement to work weekends and evenings when live events are taking place.

Job Description

Job responsibilities

Work with both internal and external stakeholders to help ensure that all income generation activities at St Leonards Hospice are promoted effectively through the delivery of impactful marketing and communications campaigns targeting key stakeholders and reaching new audiences.

Main Duties And Responsibilities

Creating and implementing communications and marketing plans

  1. Plan, implement and deliver communication and marketing campaigns in support of the Hospice's fundraising and retail activity.
  2. Develop and implement proactive, creative and cost-effective integrated plans, working to set performance targets.
  3. Create campaign reviews to highlight impact of campaigns and key learnings and apply that insight to continually improve outcomes in the future.
  4. Attend all key fundraising and retail events and new shop openings to manage social media and media activity.

Content writing and storytelling

  1. Create and write engaging and compelling content which will be used across a variety of on and offline channels (email, poster, leaflets, social media channels and website) to educate donors and supporters about the breadth of our services and how they can support us.
  2. Plan and write our supporter newsletter.
  3. Continually update and refresh the fundraising and retail pages on our website.
  4. Proactively identify stories that are appropriate for media / social media.
  5. Speak to patients, families and supporters and write compelling stories.
  6. As part of the team, you will be expected to proactively liaise with media to promote our stories and coordinate media interviews.

Additional Duties

  1. Develop and proofread corporate marketing materials such as the Quality Account.
  2. Monitor our social media, email and website performance and provide timely analytics.
  3. Answer queries which come via email, social media and our website, offering a responsive customer service.
  4. Draft and issue internal communications including the monthly staff bulletin.
  5. Ensuring we always safeguard our brand.
  6. Administrative tasks such as managing our media release forms and photo library.

Person Specification

Qualifications Desirable

  1. Educated to degree level.
  2. Communications or marketing qualification.

Experience Essential

  1. Proven experience in marketing and communications in a similar role.
  2. Experience in devising and evaluating integrated communications and marketing campaigns.
  3. Proven track record of managing social media channels and developing paid social campaigns.
  4. Website management.
  5. Experience in creating compelling email campaigns.
  6. Track record of using audience insights and competitor activity to build engagement.
  7. Experience with analytical tools such as Google Analytics to monitor, interpret and improve digital performance.
  8. Knowledge of SEO techniques and best practice.
  9. Strong copywriter.
  10. Creative and innovative thinker.
  11. Strong organisational and planning skills.
  12. Good attention to detail.

Desirable

  1. Photography, video and editing skills.
  2. Events experience
  3. Knowledge of working in a charity environment.

  5. Experience using content management systems including WordPress.
