Job description

As an added incentive, there's an extra recruitment and retention bonus of £2,000, distributed in two instalments during the initial year.

Croydon Health Services is actively searching for qualified Health Visitors and student Health Visitors who are eager to enhance their leadership capabilities and contribute to the future direction of Public Health Nursing in Croydon.

We're looking for individuals who are enthusiastic about collaborative work, possess warmth and excellent communication skills, and demonstrate a solid grasp of the Healthy Child Programme and Safeguarding policies. Our dynamic learning and development team promises an exciting journey within our service.

This role is an integral part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering the Healthy Child Programme and offering additional support to families with children aged 0-5. Our aim is to implement an integrated approach to Health Visiting throughout Croydon Health Services.

Please be aware that flexible working arrangements can be discussed with line managers to accommodate service requirements.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead and deliver the Healthy Child Programme by:

  • Working to and managing a designated and defined case load of families, the Health Visitor will be the named health professional responsible for the planning and delivery of the HCP, reporting to and being line managed by a Team Leader or Clinical Service Lead (CSL).
  • Planning their own workload effectively to meet client needs, clinical activity targets and KPIs.
  • Working in partnership with team members, infant feeding colleagues, service users, Croydon Health Service (CHS) staff, and all stakeholders to promote the health and wellbeing of Children, Young People (age 0-19 years) and their families.
  • Working in partnership with the CSL, Practice Educator and multidisciplinary teams in the development of innovative clinical practice in line with the Healthy Child Programme.
  • Assessing client needs, using the Family Strengths and Needs, Early Help Assessments and Risk Assessment tools (as appropriate) to plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based care given and support families where there is a chronic illness or disability and to advise on care in cooperation with other agencies.
  • Liaising effectively with colleagues within Croydon Health Services and partner organisations to ensure care for children and families is timely and well-coordinated.
Person Specification
Education & Qualification
  • To have a clinical qualification RGN/RN.
  • To be a Specialist Public Health Practitioner Health Visiting qualification at Degree or Post Graduate Level.
  • To have undertaken Nurse Prescribing or a commitment to undertake Nurse Prescribing training.
  • To have a mentoring qualification.
  • To have experience of implementing evidence-based practice.
  • Line Management Experience in a Community Setting.
Experience
  • To be able to demonstrate an understanding of current issues affecting community health services including: Health Services, clinical effectiveness, evidence-based care, and clinical governance.
  • To have evidence of continuing professional development.
  • To show knowledge of the principles of Safeguarding Children management.
  • To be able to understand key elements of change management.
  • To demonstrate an awareness of the complex issues involved when working across organisations and disciplines.
  • To have an understanding of NMC Code of Conduct scope of professional Practice.
  • To have some Research knowledge.
Skills & Abilities
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, including an ability to build rapport and establish good one-to-one relationships.
  • Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and to demonstrate an ability to make decisions.
  • To have the ability to effectively use different styles of influencing in a variety of settings.
