Job Title: Assistant Project Manager

Department: Defence

Location: Colchester

Main Purpose of Role

Woods Air Movement have an exciting new opportunity to recruit a motivated Assistant Project Manager. This role is part of a key pillar of the business in a dedicated and motivated team to deliver into strategic UK contracts. The APM will play a key role in the business’ project management governance and controls, supporting the strategic planning of the business by delivering its critical projects.

The APM will be responsible for working with the team to execute the project lifecycle and be involved in various aspects of managing complex Defence contracts. The candidate will need to be able to demonstrate an ability to work with our multifunctional organization, and to manage work packages with the project team. The candidate should show the skills required to maintain, monitor, and implement project management principles and governance.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, a team player, a confident self-starter with drive to deliver change. Will need to show willingness to learn and develop new skills. They will need excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist the Project Management team in planning, organising, and overseeing project activities to ensure they are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Coordinate and communicate with project stakeholders, including clients, team members, and vendors, to ensure project requirements are understood and met.
  • Generate, prepare, and maintain project documentation, including schedules, financial reports, progress reports, meeting minutes, and other relevant materials.
  • Work closely with Business Lead, Project Manager, Commercial and Financial team to maintain project tools and data.
  • Monitor project progress and identify potential issues or risks, escalating them to the Project Manager as needed.
  • Help manage project resources, including scheduling team members, tracking project expenses, and maintaining project files.
  • Support the Project Manager in conducting project meetings, preparing presentations, and facilitating communication among team members.
  • Update and maintain elements with the company ERP system.
  • Support with management of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Willing and able to take delegation from the Project Manager from time to time.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of project management processes and tools.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Manager to support project success.
  • Able to proficiently write reports using Excel, Word, and MS Project.

  • Studied project management with 1-2 years job experience management.

  • Must be willing to travel to customers and suppliers.
