Job description

As a Sodexo Assistant Cook at King Edward VI King's Norton School for Boys, Northfield Rd, King's Norton, Birmingham B30 1DY, you will support the Cook Manager in managing the school's kitchen's budget as well as all food and beverage operations. You'll help the cook manager make sure the kitchen supplies are showcased, presented in the most visually appealing way possible, and that we're providing the finest service we can. Furthermore, you will not be required to work irregular hours and will be guaranteed time off on public holidays, which includes Christmas!

What you do:

• Prepare, cook, present, and serve food to company standards which may include breakfast, morning break, lunch, and hospitality.
• You will adhere to all company compliance (such as Food safety, Health and Safety, Allergen awareness, COSHH and HACCP regulations).
• To carry out craft/skills training for catering staff.
• To ensure that all service counters and food is presented to company standards.
• To guarantee that each dish served is portioned according to business requirements.
• To complete daily/weekly cleaning duties as instructed by the line manager, including all food preparation and storage areas, and all catering communal areas. Removal of waste from the catering area.
• Deliver exceptionally high standards in customer service, cleanliness, tidiness, and other operational activity.

What you bring:

• A minimum of 1 year of experience in hands-on cooking; training on Food Hygiene and Health & Safety will be given.
• Must have expertise in cooking on a large scale, anywhere between 100 – 1300 students.
• Have experience following recipes, possibly in a similar setting.
• Have experience working with fresh produce and ingredients.
• Be aware of the importance of adhering to health and safety procedures.
• Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines in a busy kitchen environment.
• Be professional, leading by example and having a positive outlook is key.
• Hold basic food handling skills certification.

Package Description

• £13.50 per hour
• 32.5 hours per week
• Working pattern: Monday - Friday (08:00-14:30)
• Term Time Only (39-week Working Contract paid over 52 weeks)

**Equated pay (sometimes known as spread-over pay) is a method of paying you for your contracted hours, working weeks, and holiday pay spread over 12 months instead of just receiving pay during the months that you work and none during the school closures/non-working weeks. This means that you get paid equal amounts of pay every month. Further information will be supplied at the interview stage.**
