STATEMENT OF AGENCY:
Commonpoint is a multifaceted community center dedicated to sustaining and enhancing the quality of individual, family and communal life throughout New York City, offering services to people of all ages, ability levels, stages of life and backgrounds. They strive to meet the evolving needs of their community of over 100,000 members ranging from providing in-school and after-school programs, professional and career development, assistance with food insecurity, legal services, financial counseling, mental health services, senior classes, dementia care programs, and tax preparation assistance to name a few. Commonpoint has grown tremendously in the last five years and now has a mission-driven staff of 3,000 and over 80 sites in the five boroughs.
STATEMENT OF THE JOB:
Youth Sports Coaches are key members of the Health & Wellness team and will report to the Senior Director of Health & Wellness. The primary responsibilities include hands-on coaching, lesson planning, and role modeling good sportsmanship for athletes aged 2-13 years old. Coaching opportunities in the following sports: Tennis, Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Lacrosse, and Baseball/Tee-Ball. Youth Sports Coaches ensure that fair play and the philosophy of the Youth Sports Programs is maintained. She/he is expected to assist in assessing a player's skills and abilities to help create a balanced playing field. Create and implement lesson plans for practices. Maintain supervision and care of each athlete under the care of the Youth Sports program. Organizing and maintaining sports equipment. Directly responsible for communicating team practices and games to team members. Represent Commonpoint in a positive light at all times.
