Workingstudent Data Engineer (f/m/d)

Deine Aufgaben

• Moving our data warehouse towards a new software stack. Currently, we’re switching to DBT for our data transformation needs. Next comes the orchestration, followed by data extraction-ingestion, and a new storage engine. There’s fun stuff queuing to get done and fresh perspectives are welcome.
• Working within a small, easy-going team, with the “boss” within a nerf gun’s range.
• Working at a group of online retailers of premium goods with a strong IT backbone.
• Delivering data to other teams to enable data-driven decision-making.
• No dress code (short of no speedos, flip-flops, or crocs).
• Flexibly remote work after onboarding in Hannover with occasional in-person team meetings.
• And, of course, some legacy code maintenance for the time being.

Dein Profil

• Ongoing studies with at least 12 months to go. The relevant fields are Data/Computer Science, Data/Software Engineering, Business Informatics, or similar.
• Residence within Germany with a valid work permit; residence in the Hannover area is strongly preferred.
• Good proficiency in SQL.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language; Python and/or Java are preferred.
• At least rudimentary GIT skills.
• Working language proficiency in English; German is desired, yet not mandatory.
• Willingness to figure stuff out, make it work, then make it pretty.
• Willingness to make the whole thing work as a team.

Nice-to-Haves

• Willingness to have an occasional drink with the team (we like to think we’re pretty chill).
• Experience with CLI.
• Experience in Linux Server administration.
• Experience in managing and tuning column-oriented databases.
• Experience in managing an RDBMS server.
• Experience with ELT-Tools and/or specifically DBT.
• Basic understanding of what is what and where in Microsoft Azure Services.
• If you do machine learning, an ability to build a business case.
