The IFHV is an interdisciplinary central research institute at RUB located in Bochumer Fenster (near Bochum main station). With its traditionally strong focus on and expertise in international law, the institute fosters research and teaching in the field of Humanitarian Studies, including the participation of the Faculties of Law, Social Science, Geosciences, and Public Health.

You can look forward to a dynamic role within a central research institute that collaborates with various partners both in the national context and internationally. The primary focus of this position is to support a project funded by Aktion Deutschland Hilft (ADH), which aims to enhance the academy for humanitarian action (aha). The aha provides training events on current topics and challenges in humanitarian action, as well as a structured certificate program in various core areas. The project’s objectives include the globalization, digitalization, and academization of the training offerings, along with a scientific evaluation.

Your Tasks

• Support the content development and scientific evaluation of training programs within the project framework.
• Conduct independent social science research in the fields of Humanitarian Studies, development policy, and/or related research areas.
• Support the further development and digitalization of the academy for humanitarian action (aha).
• Establish training hubs abroad and conduct training sessions outside of Europe.
• Assist in public relations and marketing for the training events offered.

Your Profile:

• University degree in social sciences, humanities, or geography with a focus on humanitarian action, development policy, or international relations.
• Preferably, good knowledge in one or more of the following areas: anticipatory humanitarian action and disaster risk management, Triple Nexus, localization, decolonization and participation, humanitarian negotiation and mediation, leadership, and personnel development.
• Established network in the field of humanitarian action in Germany and/or in project regions is an advantage.
• Experience in project management and/or organizing and conducting events/workshops.
• Experience in professional training is a plus.
• International experience and/or practical experience in humanitarian work is desirable.
• Willingness to travel regularly outside of Europe.
• Suitability for tropical climates.
• Interest in independent research work.
• Excellent written and spoken English and German skills are required.
• Proficiency in PC skills (MS Office and CMS) is required.
• Experience in creating content for social media is desirable.
• Cooperative working style, flexibility, and organizational talent.
