In Division V - Physics and Mathematics, Institute for Theoretical Physics (ITP), KIT Department of Physics, the following position is to be filled as soon as possible:
The Tenure-track-professorship is embedded in the research and teaching activities of the Institute for Theoretical Physics (ITP), the KIT Center for Elementary Particle and Astroparticle Physics (KCETA), and the Department of Physics. The Tenure-track-professorship should focus on theoretical cosmology, broadly defined: early universe cosmology, general relativity, inflation, CMB physics, large scale structure, gravitational waves, phase transitions, or baryogenesis. Candidates should strengthen and complement existing theoretical and experimental activities at KIT, in particle and astroparticle physics and cosmology.
KIT provides an excellent environment for research in particle and astroparticle physics in which the successful candidate will participate. The Institute for Theoretical Physics is part of the KIT Center for Elementary Particle and Astroparticle Physics. KIT hosts the graduate school for particle and astroparticle physics which provides training for graduate students.
You will execute university tasks with a teaching obligation of 6 hours per week per semester, if you have been evaluated positively. In other cases, your teaching obligation will be 4 hours per week per semester. The intermediate evaluation takes place in the third year.
The appointed Tenure-track-professor is expected to contribute to teaching in the field of theoretical physics (BSc/MSc) and to supervise students and doctoral researchers in the framework of the research group.
Qualification
Necessary condition for a successful application for the Tenure-track-Professorship (W1) is a high-level grant for a junior research group (e.g., DFG Emmy-Noether group, Helmholtz junior research group, ERC starting grants, junior research groups of ministries (BMBF) or a Sofia Kovalevskaja junior research group of the Alexander von Humboldt foundation), in its first half of the funding period at the time of publication of this ad. Further, a completed doctorate (PhD) in physics, outstanding internationally visible scientific achievements in the area of cosmology as well as pedagogical aptitude are required.
Employment is subject to Art. 14, par. (2) of the KIT Act in conjunction with Art. 51 LHG Baden-Württemberg (Act of Baden-Württemberg on Universities and Colleges) as well as to the Quality Assurance Concept for Junior Professorships and Tenure-track Professorships at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
Contract duration
Employment is limited to six years as a civil servant for a fixed term or as a salaried employee. Before the expiry of the third year of work, an interim evaluation will take place. The evaluation procedure and evaluation criteria are outlined in the Quality Assurance Concept for Junior Professorships and Tenure-track Professorships at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Specific interim and final evaluation criteria will include: visible contributions to the research field, successful teaching proven by evaluations, supervision of students and doctoral researchers, and contributions to securing third-party funding. In case of a positive final evaluation, you will be offered a full professorship (W3).
