IABG is a top player in the geospatial tech space, with a focus on using satellite data and remote sensing for all kinds of applications. We're dedicated to using Earth observation to tackle complex environmental and social issues.
We're looking for an experienced Technical Manager to support the project "Copernicus Emergency Management Service" for our customer, the European Union. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of satellite data, particularly within the Copernicus programme, and a proven track record in managing projects from start to finish. This role requires a dynamic individual who can coordinate with various stakeholders, manage project timelines and budgets, and ensure the successful delivery of high-quality remote sensing solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Analysis of satellite, aerial and UAV imagery, and digital elevation models, including semi-automatic information extraction, geospatial analyses, data fusion of different sources, generation of statistics and reports, primarily in the project environment of disaster risk management for national and European clients.
  • Pre- and postprocessing of imagery and geodata, combined with data manipulation incl. workflow development of respective process steps using ArcGIS, QGIS or other suitable software.
  • Monitor and report on project progress, identifying and mitigating risks as they arise.
  • Publication of results in ArcGIS online and in ArcGIS Enterprise environment.
  • Determination of exposure, vulnerability and risk for assets and population based on (natural) hazard extents.
  • Support in generation of (natural) hazard extents incl. scenario compilation.
  • Generation of digital maps using ArcGIS Pro (cartographic design, map series, map templates).
  • Reporting and presentation of results to customers.
  • Management and communication with partners and customers on technical level.
  • Support in proposal preparation (technical concepts and effort estimation).

Minimum Requirements:

  • University degree in the field of environmental science or geoscience.
  • 2+ years practical experience in the field of earth observation; preferable in international disaster risk management environment or the Copernicus context.
  • Profound knowledge in GIS products (esp. ArcGIS) and tools incl. relevant software packages.
  • Domain knowledge in the field of Disaster Risk Management, natural hazards and their determination/ modelling using earth observation and/or GIS techniques.
  • Expertise in flood modelling is an advantage.
  • Proven reporting, communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English (C1).
  • Very good command (at least B2) of further languages are an advantage.
  • Willingness to work in a team and take responsibility.
  • Willingness to work in 24/7 for several weeks per year is an advantage.
