System Engineer (m/f/d) - Optical Systems

Your Tasks

• Be responsible for the technical coordination of system development, fabrication, installation and commissioning of optical scientific telescopes and/or ground stations for optical communications
• Be the central point of contact for the customer as well as suppliers for the technical aspects, but also for the internal interdisciplinary OHB team
• Fully manage the project in all phases together with the project manager, from project acquisition to completion
• Support the definition of technical specifications and requirements for optical systems and related (sub-)systems
• Perform analyses and calibrations of optical and opto-mechanical systems
• Create and maintain the technical documentation

Your Qualifications

• Degree in physics, photonics, optics, engineering, or equivalent qualification
• Proven professional track record and experience of 5+ years as a system engineer with focus on design responsibility for optical systems, preferably in telescopes or optical communication systems
• Sound knowledge in the field of optics with in-depth expertise in conceptual optical design, simulation, calibration, and analysis
• System and process-oriented thinking
• Experience with optical design software desirable
• Ideally experience in development logic during the design phases, as well as experience in hardware development and commissioning of complex systems in the field
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, multicultural, and multilingual team
• Structured, systematic way of working and good self-organization
• Fluency in written and spoken English, other languages are an advantage
• Willingness to travel internationally to construction sites, suppliers, customers, and conferences
