What to Expect:
Tesla’s Supplier Industrialization team is responsible for component development, part and process qualification activities, quality management, and continuous improvement activities at suppliers. The job requires effective communication at all levels both with internal and external teams, traveling to suppliers in different regions, and on-the-spot critical decision making. The goal: developing suppliers by teaching best practices for manufacturing, quality, and engineering, delivering on time quantities of high quality component parts into Tesla’s production processes to enable extremely rapid development cycles and product launches, driving lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste and improve quality.
The Supplier Industrialization Engineer Metrology will be responsible for validating the measuring processes and fixtures used by our OEM partners to ensure that they meet our exacting standards. This includes reviewing and evaluating the measurement plans, procedures, and protocols used by our suppliers, as well as the design, development, and qualification of measuring fixtures and gauges. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of metrology principles, measurement uncertainty, process validation methodologies, and fixture design and qualification.
What You’ll Do:
- Review and evaluate measurement plans, procedures, and protocols used by OEM partners to ensure compliance with our quality standards and regulations.
- Validate the measuring processes used by OEM partners to ensure that they are accurate, reliable, and compliant with our quality requirements.
- Conduct audits and assessments of OEM measuring processes to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with our quality standards.
- Develop and implement measurement validation plans to ensure that our OEM partners' measuring processes are validated and compliant with our quality requirements.
- Validate the design, development, and qualification of measuring fixtures and gauges used by OEM partners to ensure that they meet our quality standards and regulations.
- Collaborate with OEM partners, quality engineers, and other stakeholders to resolve any issues or discrepancies related to measuring process and fixture validation.
- Analyze data and reports from OEM partners to ensure that their measuring processes and fixtures are producing accurate and reliable results.
Measuring Fixture Validation Responsibilities:
- Review and evaluate the design and development of measuring fixtures and gauges used by OEM partners to ensure compliance with our quality standards and regulations.
- Conduct qualification and validation activities for measuring fixtures and gauges, including layout inspection, functional gauging, and performance testing.
- Develop and implement fixture validation plans to ensure that measuring fixtures and gauges are qualified and validated to our quality requirements.
- Collaborate with OEM partners and quality engineers to resolve any issues or discrepancies related to fixture validation.
- Analyze data and reports from fixture validation activities to ensure that measuring fixtures and gauges are producing accurate and reliable results.
What You’ll Bring:
- Certified Metrology Technician (CMT) or Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) certification.
- Experience in Supplier Industrialization, Customer Quality, and Product or Application Development at Raw Material producer or qualified automotive supplier.
- Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and design of experiments (DOE).
- Experience working with OEM supply chains and managing multiple vendor relationships.
- Familiarity with CAD design and fixture design software, such as SolidWorks or CATIA.
- Knowledge of PPAP/APQP processes and automotive technical knowledge.
- Excellent spoken and written English.
- Domestic and international travel (expected 30 - 40% of the time), sometimes on short notice.
