The position is a permanent full-time position.

YOUR ROLE

• You are responsible for establishing the teaching and research area of the applications of quantum technologies at the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science in the Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering.
• You are actively engaged in research within this area and integrate your research findings into your teaching.
• You will establish important connections with stakeholders in the Hamburg metropolitan area, particularly the Hamburg Quantum Innovation Capital (hqic) initiative and the Quantum Technology Hub of the DESY Innovation Factory (DIF) at the German Electron Synchrotron, as well as national and international partners in this field.
• Your goal is to establish a network for the university within this field and to innovatively develop the teaching, learning and further training formats in order to optimally prepare students and the next generation of engineers for the applications of quantum technologies.
• Your duties as specialist chair will predominantly include establishing a network for the university and developing transfer and cooperation relationships.
• Your teaching load will be reduced from 18 to 11 teaching hours until the summer semester of 2028 in accordance with Sec. 12(9) of the Hamburg Higher Education Act (HmbHG).
• You will also teach physics classes within the various degree programmes and basic engineering classes in English.

YOUR PROFILE

• We are looking for an ambitious individual with strong communication skills and a degree in physics or engineering.
• You have practical as well as academic experience in the area of quantum technologies.
• You should have research experience, preferably in the area of quantum technologies and their applications, as well as experience in obtaining third-party funding.
• A strong interest in interdisciplinary collaboration and conducting research projects with various partners is absolutely essential.
• You have at least five years of practical professional experience, at least three of which must have been spent outside of the higher education sector.
• You should have some teaching experience, interest in teaching issues and an interdisciplinary approach that enables you to communicate the relationship between scientific basics and programme-specific content.
• You will take an active role in shaping skills-centred and diversity-oriented teaching and supervising placements, projects and dissertations.
• You are expected to actively participate in the formation and development of the department and the faculty, including a willingness to assume positions within the framework of academic self-administration.

INFORMATION

• For appointment as a professor, as well as the general staff requirements, the appointment requirements in accordance with Section 15 Para. 1-6 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act (HmbHG) also apply.
• This includes the willingness to participate in the self-administration committees of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences as well as a choice of residence in proximity to the university.
• The denomination of the vacant post is under the caveat of assessment at appropriate intervals in accordance with Section 12 Para 7 HmbHG.
• As well as the basic salary of grade W2 and its basic performance benefits, a provision of appointment performance benefits is also possible which can be negotiated with the university president.
• In addition, there is also the possibility of granting a bonus from third-party funds.
• Candidates who have not yet reached the age of 50 at the time of appointment may be appointed as tenured officials; otherwise, the employment relationship is that of a standard employee.
• The advertised position is a special professorship funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Ministry of Science, Research, Equality and Districts of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg in accordance with § 12 para. 9 HmbHG, for which a predominant activity in research and the development of transfer and cooperation relationships with a reduced scope of eleven teaching hours is planned as a service task, limited until 30.09.2028 at the latest.
