The position is a permanent full-time position.

YOUR ROLE

• The advertised specialist professorship has a particular focus on conducting and developing innovative research at the interface of artificial intelligence and data science. We expect you to initiate and manage pioneering projects within the relevant fields, with a particular focus on practical applications.
• Particular emphasis should be placed on promoting close collaboration with partners in research and industry in order to ensure the relevance of research to the current challenges within applied artificial intelligence as well as data science.
• Your duties will predominantly include research activities and the development of transfer and cooperation relationships.
• Your teaching load will be reduced from 18 to 11 teaching hours until the summer semester of 2028 in accordance with Sec. 12(9) of the Hamburg Higher Education Act (HmbHG).
• The professorship also involves teaching classes at bachelor’s and master’s level with a specific focus on fundamental as well as advanced topics in the areas of artificial intelligence and data science.
• Your tasks will include developing and updating the course contents of existing modules as well as creating and planning new modules and integrating innovative and diversity-oriented learning methods.

YOUR PROFILE

• You have a university degree in computer science with outstanding achievements, as well as a qualified doctorate in computer science or a closely related field.
• You should have demonstrably accomplished outstanding achievements in at least one of the following areas:
• Use of artificial intelligence (AI): successful implementation of AI-based methods in real application scenarios, preferably in industrial, economic or societal contexts.
• Development of data science solutions: proven experience in the development of innovative data science solutions, including advanced data analysis, pattern recognition and statistical models.
• You should be able to convincingly outline how your work has contributed to advancements in the fields of applied artificial intelligence and data science.
• The professorship requires sound knowledge within the general area of computer science as well as modern methods of artificial intelligence, data analytics, cognitive sciences or related disciplines.
• Evidence of relevant research contributions and publications in renowned scientific journals/at conferences contributing to the development of research in the fields of artificial intelligence and data science.
• Successful initiation, management and implementation of research projects within the field of artificial intelligence and data science, ideally including the acquisition of external funding.
• Active participation in the development of innovative research methods and technologies within the context of AI and data science.
• Experience in cooperating successfully with other research institutes, industry partners and relevant stakeholders.
• Experience in supervising graduates, ideally PhD candidates, as well as involving them in research projects.
• Establishing and maintaining national and international academic networks to promote cooperations and research exchanges.
• You have general teaching skills, evidence of which will be provided by means of a trial lecture and teaching experience.
• Willingness to actively participate in the teaching and curricular development of the existing courses of study within the department.
• Ability to hold classes in English to promote the university's growing international focus.

INFORMATION

• For appointment as a professor, as well as the general staff requirements, the appointment requirements in accordance with Section 15 Para. 1-6 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act (HmbHG) also apply.
• This includes the willingness to participate in the self-administration committees of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences.
• The denomination of the vacant post is under the caveat of assessment at appropriate intervals in accordance with Section 12 Para 7 HmbHG.
• As well as the basic salary of grade W2 and basic performance benefits, a provision of appointment performance benefits is also possible which can be negotiated with the university president.
• Candidates who have not yet reached the age of 50 at the time of appointment may be appointed as tenured officials, otherwise the employment relationship is that of a standard employee.
