Position Overview

For Plan.Net TechNest South Africa, we are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Real-Time 3D Artist (all genders).The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in 3D modeling, texturing, and rendering, with a specialization in real-time asset creation. You will play a critical role in shaping the visual quality and performance of our projects, working closely with both art and development teams.

Key Responsibilities

• 3D Asset Creation: Lead the creation of high-quality 3D assets, including characters, environments, props, and vehicles, optimized for real-time applications
• Technical Expertise: Implement and advocate for best practices in real-time rendering, including efficient UV mapping, LOD creation, and texture optimization.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the creative director, designers, and developers to integrate assets seamlessly into the project and maintain a cohesive visual style.
• Optimization: Lead efforts in performance optimization, ensuring assets are optimized for real-time engines without sacrificing visual fidelity.
• Innovation: Stay abreast of the latest trends and technologies in real-time 3D artistry, proposing innovative solutions to enhance workflows and asset quality.
• Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve complex issues related to 3D assets and their implementation in real-time engines.
• Documentation: Oversee the creation and maintenance of documentation for asset creation processes and pipelines.
• Future Leadership: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior 3D artists, ensuring high standards of quality and consistency across all projects.

Skills & Attributes

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in 3D Art, Game Design, Computer Graphics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Software Proficiency: Expertise in industry-standard 3D software (e.g., Maya, 3ds Max, Blender) and texturing tools (e.g., Substance Painter, Quixel).
• Real-Time Engine Knowledge: Advanced proficiency in real-time engines such as Unreal Engine or Unity (knowledge in WebGL/WebGPU would be great)
• Technical Skills: In-depth understanding of PBR (Physically-Based Rendering) workflows, shaders, lighting, and material creation.
• Communication: Exceptional communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to provide constructive feedback and drive creative discussions.
• Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail and a strong aesthetic sense, capable of delivering visually compelling and technically sound assets.

Experience

• Experience with VR/AR: Experience creating assets for virtual reality or augmented reality applications.
• Animation Skills: Understanding of animation principles and experience with rigging and animating 3D models.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in 3D modeling and texturing, with a strong focus on real-time applications. Proven leadership experience is a plus.
• Portfolio: Extensive portfolio showcasing high-quality 3D models and textures, with a focus on real-time asset creation and optimization.
