(Senior) Mechanical Design Engineer, Drive Unit/Traction Inverter (Powertrain) (m/w/d) - Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg

Tesla’s drive unit development team is looking for skilled and motivated mechanical engineers to push the power electronics, motors, and geartrains propelling our vehicles to the next level. The team is presently working to improve the current - and design the next - generation of drive units and is looking for engineers (any level) to help drive our designs to the physical limits. What You’ll Do

• Collaborate with other mechanical, systems, electrical, digital control, manufacturing, industrial design, and test engineers to take designs from prototypes into mass production
• Design validation and engineering test plans for new designs and vendors
• Take ownership of design after start of production
• Identify and tend to potential and actual part shortages or quality issues, and own product improvements and design revisions
• Be the design representative for yield excursions and disposition of non-conforming parts
• Participate in DFMEAs and PFMEAs
• Manage 3D CAD, 2D drawings, and BOM in both CAD and PLM software

What You’ll Bring

• BS or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
• Experience designing and building mechanical assemblies
• Material science knowledge of materials used in electronics packaging (metals, insulators, plastics, connectors, gaskets, thermal interface materials, potting, etc.)
• Familiarity with PCBAs and PCBA components
• Familiarity with high voltage electrical and mechanical design
• Basic understanding of electrical design fundamentals
• Proficiency using CAD modeling tools
• Proficiency with statistics and data analysis
• Excellent communication skills, both in presentations and in writing
• The ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, and challenging environment

Additional Preferred Skills

• Strong understanding of Mechanical Engineering fundamentals (heat transfer, fluids, statics, dynamics, structural design)
• Experience using GD&T to control part features
• Experience using CATIA V5 and/or V6
• Experience with PLM systems, engineering changes, deviations, BOM structuring, etc.
• Experience with environmental, reliability, safety, and industry standard requirements for automotive products
• Experience with high volume manufacturing processes such as injection molding, stamping, die cast, etc.
• Knowledge of design for reliability and design for manufacturability concepts
• Working knowledge of Matlab and/or Python
