ABOUT THE JOB
Gunzilla Games is looking to recruit a Senior Lighting Artist to join us in our Game Lighting or Cinematic team to work on our game OTG (Off The Grid), an all-new AAA Battle Royale 2.0 third-person shooter, available as Early Access on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC now.
This role will be for an initial 12-month contract with the option to extend for longer.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partner with art leadership to combine traditional aesthetics with next-gen lighting techniques to light a world with an inspiring and cohesive vision across a diverse range of environments.
- Use your expert-level knowledge of various lighting tools and techniques to craft lighting in Unreal Engine 5 harnessing the power of Lumen and partner with art, tech art, and engineering to integrate solutions into a production pipeline.
- Use your understanding of HDR lighting, colour theory, shape, surface types, and the techniques and technologies relating to physically based rendering to help visual development.
- Work closely with the art and design departments to conceptualize and implement real-time lighting solutions that satisfy both aesthetic and gameplay objectives.
- Anticipate and work well within different production and technical constraints and understand the budgeting restrictions associated with them.
- Create, maintain, and communicate documentation for lighting guidelines and implementation techniques.
REQUIREMENTS
- Having worked as a Game or Cinematic Lighting Artist through an entire production cycle, or 3+ years experience of the production cycle on a shipped AAA PC/Console titles.
- Understanding of PBR and PBL workflows with the ability to spot and diagnose issues with both.
- Thorough understanding of real-time lighting techniques (including vertex lighting, dynamic lights, subsurface scattering, HDR, and pre-baked light map solutions).
- Excellent aptitude for troubleshooting technical issues associated with lighting, performance, tools, and pipelines.
- Able to communicate exceptionally well with programmers, designers, producers, and artists.
- Self-starter and driver, great communicator, and an amazing team player.
- You love to solve problems and you love to collaborate. Creating epic entertainment experiences is a team effort and you thrive when exploring ideas and working with others.
PLUSES
- Production experience in Unreal Engine 4/5.
- Shipped a Battle Royale, Third Person Shooter, or First Person Shooter in a Lighting artist role.
- Basic understanding of Unreal Engine Blueprints, Light Functions, and Materials.
- Deep understanding of Unreal Engine 5 functionality.
- Proficient in modelling software (Maya or Blender preferred but not required).
- Ability to create in-engine tools for Unreal Engine.
