Senior Data Engineer – Freelance - Berlin

Location: Remote (based in Berlin)
Availability: Full-time

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to manage and improve data pipelines, collaborate with internal and external teams, and ensure data quality and governance. This role requires a strong understanding of data orchestration, big data NoSQL databases, cloud platforms, and various data file formats.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Manage and improve data pipelines to optimize performance and reliability.
2. Collaborate with Data Engineers to understand data sources and ensure data integration.
3. Coordinate with Central teams on data contracts and platform requirements.
4. Ensure data quality and governance, implementing best practices.
5. Train internal staff to maintain and update pipelines after the project is completed.

Desired Skills and Experience:

1. Experience with data orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Python).
2. Experience with big data NoSQL databases (e.g., S3, Databricks).
3. Knowledge of data file formats (e.g., Delta, Iceberg).
4. Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms.
5. Proficient in shell scripting and configuration (e.g., YAML).
6. Understanding of Software Development and Agile practices.
7. Familiar with Git, PR reviews, CI systems, and Continuous Delivery.
