As a recognized Agile expert within a Journey, Platform, Practice or segment aligned with project delivery, the Agile Coach provides hands-on support, recommendations and guidance across Agile teams—notably through day-to-day leadership, executive and team training and support.
Their coaching educates team members in Agile and NEW methods and their role in the Agile operating model, as well as the business value the Agile method provides.
The Agile Coach regularly assesses and calibrates the team’s Agile fluency, leveraging the enterprise framework including direct support of work mobilization activities (e.g., roadmap development, functional decomposition).
The ultimate goal of the Coach role is to bring Agile teams (e.g., Product Groups, Product Families, Pods) to a level of capability that no longer requires the Coach’s guidance.
Experienced Agile Coach requires comprehensive expertise in leading-edge theories or techniques in agile approaches
Focus is on coaching and training leadership and assisting Scrum Masters and agile teams
Ability to provide guidance and oversight to multiple teams, growing capability across the organization
In-depth expertise in agile to interpret internal and external obstacles and recommend best practices
Helps Scrum Masters resolve problems, and identify innovative solutions
Offers advice and guidance for delivery teams on how to transition to and operate in scaled delivery environments
Coaches other teams & leads teams to drive agile adoption
Generally reports to Practice Area Lead or Practice Lead and contributes directly to assigned Journey or Platform
Participates fully as a member of the agile team (e.g., Product Group, Product Family), supports a positive work environment that promotes service to the business, quality, innovation and teamwork and ensure timely communication of issues/ points of interest
Provides thought leadership and/ or industry knowledge for agile execution and participates in capability building for the team and business unit
Keeps current on emerging trends/ developments and grow knowledge of the business, and agile related tools / techniques
Participate in personal performance management and development activities, including cross training within own team
Keeps others informed and up-to-date about the status / progress of committed work and / or all relevant or useful information related to day-to-day activities
Contributes to team development of skills and capabilities through mentorship of others, by sharing knowledge and experiences and leveraging best practices.
Leads, motivates and develops relationships with internal and external Agile teams to develop productive working relationships
Contributes to a fair, positive and equitable environment that supports a diverse workforce
Acts as a brand ambassador, both internally and/or externally
Skills and Experience Required:
Post-secondary education and typically requiring 7+ years of Agile experience
Certified Scrum Master and/or Certified Scrum Master in scaled Agile framework (e.g., SAFE) and 5+ years of Scrum Master experience
Advanced knowledge of agile theory, methodology- including scaling techniques, rules, and practices, estimating/sizing, planning, forecasting, reporting, conflict resolution and facilitation
Ability to establish goals and objectives that support delivery execution for multiple teams, contribute to the direction of the function and provide advice to the team and delivery leadership
Ability to lead, plan, execute and evaluate committed work activities to ensure completion of initiatives
Skill in mentoring, performance management and, using analytical software tools, data analysis methods and reporting techniques
Proficiency using computer applications including MS Office and industry standard Agile tools such as Jira and Confluence
Knowledge of current and emerging competitor and market trends
