Small Molecular Therapeutics and Platform Technologies (SMTPT) within Discovery Research seeks a Scientist II / Senior Scientist I (all genders) - Medicinal Chemistry (2 years temporary / fulltime) to design and synthesize small molecules within the Global Medicinal Chemistry (GMEC) organization. GMEC is committed to delivering first and best-in-class small molecules in conventional and unconventional drug-like space with the potential to improve human health. You will work in a cross functional team aimed at identifying and advancing promising low dose leads.

This means:

• The focus of your role will be to prepare biologically active compounds from milligram to gram scale using state of the art organic synthesis and technology.
• You will independently design and execute multi-step synthetic routes from milligram to multi-gram scale.
• You will develop new synthetic methods and technologies and apply them to the synthesis of biologically active compounds.
• You will be involved in the design of compounds and the evaluation of their biological activity.
• You will effectively collaborate and communicate with local and global chemistry and cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

This is how you can make a difference:

• Scientist II: you hold a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, pharmacy, or a related field or equivalent education and typically, 7 or more years of experience, or Master’s degree or equivalent education and typically 5 or more years of experience. Professional training may be substituted for equivalent knowledge gained through work experience as an Associate Scientist/Scientist.
• Senior Scientist I: you hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and typically 10 years of experience or a master’s degree or equivalent and typically 8 years of experience, PhD and no (some) experience necessary.
• Background in organic chemistry or equivalent experience with profound expertise in preparative organic chemistry and modern synthetic methods.
• You thrive in a lab-based environment working independently within a global team of highly motivated chemists.
• You have a strong desire to apply new techniques, state-of-the art design principles, and develop innovative solutions in synthetic organic chemistry.
• You have excellent communication skills in English. Basic knowledge of German would be advantageous but is not a prerequisite.
