Scientific Writer (2 year fixed term contract - extension possibility)
Role Description
We at Visual Abstract are dedicated to making complex scientific data more accessible and engaging through our AI platform. Collaborating with pharma companies, research institutions and publishers, we tackle the challenge of information overabundance.
We are looking for a Scientific Writer to join our growing team!
You will work with leading innovators in Visual Abstract for the writing of grant proposals. You will be expected to acquire a strong knowledge across Deep Tech areas (AI, software) and Medical Communication, in which we operate. You will be expected to understand the science behind the R&D strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the grant writing process, establish timeline and deliverables for the team, draft preparation and revision
- Consult with the cross functional team and play an active role in individual grant preparation
- Advise on grantsmanship and language for grant applications
- Take an active role in preparing multi-investigator grant proposals in support of new R&D
- Native review and optimise proposals in German after AI translation of text from English
- Collaborate across institutions/companies to facilitate on-time submission
- Identify new sources of funding support and prepare detailed briefs on relevant announcements
- Responsible for ensuring that data is accurate, up-to-date and complete
Qualifications and Knowledge
- PhD in Engineering or Bioinformatics (or other relevant scientific/computer science subject) or equivalent level of knowledge of research process
- A broad general knowledge in engineering technology (ideally software or AI) and medicine (or life science).
Scientific Writing
A successful track record in:
- R&D funding proposals and grant applications, ideally in the field of Innovative Software
- Reporting research or scientific/technical content in layman’s terms
General Competencies
- Exceptional oral/written communication skills to prepare competitive proposals
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent organizational skills to manage the grant writing process and deliver fundable proposals meeting interim and final deadlines
- Ability to grasp technical subjects, synthesize lines of evidence, and apply these in writing
- Experience of national or international funding agencies and their processes
- Strong analytical skills e.g. in identifying and understanding funding opportunities across the company’s activities, and offer concise and comprehensive reporting
Languages
- Proficiency of German (native level) and fluency in English (minimum B2 level)
Location
- Hybrid – 2 days on site (at our Mannheim or Stuttgart office)
