Summary:

The Research Scientist Technology Scouting (m/f/d) is responsible for the development of innovative and sustainable product concepts from opportunity recognition to market launch with the goal of expanding Momentive's specialty product portfolio.

Responsibilities Include:

• Drives innovative and sustainable technology developments from opportunity recognition to market launch in close collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners.
• Builds and maintains a network of external research institutions, universities, and technology providers.
• Conducts market and competitive analyses to support strategic decision-making with minimal guidance.
• Executes single, complex or multiple, limited projects independently, with minimal guidance in close cooperation with internal and external cooperation partners.
• Adheres to site safety policies and procedures independently. Able to identify and report unsafe work practices. Fosters and promotes a safe work environment by conducting safety meetings.
• Plans, organizes and directs laboratory activities in conformance with local safety and legal regulations. Fosters a high team motivation by creating a collaborative, inclusive, and safe work environment.
• Plans multi-step chemical synthesis routes with strong consideration of aspects such as sustainability, industrial feasibility, and economic viability.
• Performs syntheses and analytical characterization (NMR, mass spectrometric and light spectroscopic methods) of new Si-based and organic materials.
• Collaborates with process technology and manufacturing in scaling chemical synthesis from laboratory to mass production scale.
• Manages direct and/or indirect support resources (technicians, students, support functions), utilizes other functions in problem solution, has knowledge of the global technology organization and cooperating BUs.
• Communicates effectively within internal and external project teams. Reports project status and outcome to the global organization. Conducts technical documentation (lab journal). Documents and authors completed tasks or project related technical reports, including final project documentation.
• Seamless integration into the global team with a strong focus on initiating and maintaining close partnerships with the corporate and operational business functions (Technology, Marketing and Sales).
• Develops a reasonable foundation in understanding the market, product portfolio, customers, and applications. Builds credentials as an expert in specific project areas.
• Executes literature reviews, IP landscape searches, patentability assessments, and freedom-to-practice evaluations of new technology concepts and developments early-stage developments.
• Generates IP and writes IDLs (journals, patents, trade secrets).
• Attends international conferences, fairs, and exhibitions to represent Momentive's technology scouting projects.

Qualifications:

The following are required for the role:

• Technical PhD with job experience or a technical Master with several years of research/work experience.
• Several years of practical experience in the chemical industry in a R&D or product development role.
• Technical expertise in organic synthesis and analytical characterization of complex structures and compounds.
• Experience in building sustainable relationships and leading joint development projects with internal and external partners.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously and work in a global cross-functional team environment.
• Record of participating in projects as a team member with minimal guidance and support. Accomplishments have contributed to at least one technological success and/or have actual or potential monetary value.
• Shows interest in the product portfolio and application; Creative "out-of-the-box" thinker.
• Strong scientific background through publications in high-level scientific journals, patents, or presentations at international conferences or fairs.
• Demonstrates strong team spirit as well as social and intercultural competency.
• Excellent oral and written communications skills in German and English.
• Excellent knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience in Technology Scouting.
• Experience in EU or government-funded projects and/or university and research institute collaborations.
• Experience with supervision of laboratory technicians.
• Experience in polymer chemistry.
