At the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Chair of Crop Production, subject to allocation of funds, we are filling the following position at the earliest possible date on a temporary basis for the duration of the project ending “Deciphering the drought tolerance mechanisms of winter rye for climate-resilient cultivation” on 31.10.2028:

We are looking for two highly motivated research assistants to strengthen our research team. There is the possibility of a doctorate. The project will investigate the effects of a short straw gene on the drought tolerance and nitrogen efficiency of rye.

THESE ARE YOUR TASKS:

• Research in the field of agronomy, plant physiology and breeding to improve the drought tolerance and nitrogen efficiency of rye.
• Conducting field and greenhouse experiments as well as root morphological, physiological and genetic studies.
• Further development of experimental and analytical methods.
• Evaluating data.
• Publishing research results and presenting them at national and international conferences.
• Participating in workshops for further scientific training and supporting students in the preparation of their theses.

THIS MAKES YOU A GOOD FIT:

• Completed scientific university degree (state examination, diploma, master's or comparable degree) in agricultural sciences, biology or a comparable subject with at least a good result.
• Very good knowledge of plant cultivation and plant physiology as well as good knowledge of plant breeding and crop genetics.
• Very good analytical skills and experience in using statistical software.
• Experience in conducting field and greenhouse trials is desirable.
• A good command of written and spoken English.
• Excellent communication skills for the presentation of research results combined with excellent teamwork skills.

The Chair of Crop Production deals with topics relating to sustainable plant production. This includes breeding-relevant questions on abiotic stress tolerance and genome-based modelling as well as the development of sustainable cultivation systems and fertilization strategies in crop production. The research group is involved in the Maritime Systems profile line at the University of Rostock.
