Research assistant (f/m/x) Wiss2410-18 | Department of Linguistics -- Discourse Studies | Faculty of Arts and Humanities
The University of Cologne has a strong research profile and offers a full-time position as a research assistant (f/m/x) in the area of discourse studies for a period of three years.
YOUR TASKS
- You will contribute to the consolidation and expansion of the Discourse Studies research area in the Linguistics Department.
- You will carry out research that will advance current research into the multimodality of language use, with a focus on spontaneous and/or professional storytelling, multimodal discourse segmentation, and cognitive-linguistic topics such as metaphor, metonymy, and blending.
- You will teach two courses per semester (4 semester hours).
- You will contribute to department initiatives and joint research projects.
- You will elaborate and help elaborate research projects.
- You will mentor and supervise BA and MA students.
- You will carry out some administrative/organizational tasks.
YOUR PROFILE
- You hold a doctoral degree in linguistics or a similar field with a focus on linguistic topics.
- You have high-profile publications and international research experience.
- You enjoy teaching.
- You are a good team player.
- You have experience in or are willing to start mentoring/supervising undergraduate students.
- You have an excellent command of spoken and written English.
- Knowledge of German is desirable.

The position is available from 01.03.2025 on a full-time basis (39.83 hours per week) and is limited until 29 February 2028. The salary is based on remuneration group 13 TV-L of the pay scale for the German public sector.
