Responsibilities
- Directs all production activities through the Production Supervisors, as a member of the Plant Manager’s staff, coordinates interdepartmental activities with other department heads.
- Serve as the backup to the Plant Manager.
- Plans department expense budget and the method of operation to remain within the budget and assures cost control and cost improvement projects.
- Supervises Production Supervisors.
- Approves departmental operating procedures.
- Ensures the implementation of the Company’s Quality Management System.
- Monitors and controls labor and material variances.
- Monitors and controls regrind levels and material variances.
- Maintains employee welfare, follows through with subordinate training and discipline.
- Maintains job descriptions and procedures in order to ensure proper labor utilization.
- Provides leadership in maintaining safety, quality, and efficiency throughout the department.
- Determines proper utilization of workforce based on production demands.
- Recommends more efficient methods of operation.
- Conducts daily production meetings and communicates with all departments to direct support group activities.
- Consults with the Engineering department on mold revisions, improvement projects, new products, and CAPEX projects.
- Monitors production and labor efficiencies to ensure that Company standards are met and maintains proper production practices.
- Adheres to quality standards established by the Company to maintain customer satisfaction.
- Optimizes budget expenses to minimize the cost of operation consistent with productivity.
- Maintains an efficient workforce through communication and training of personnel.
- Trains and develops production personnel.
- Controls all raw materials and finished goods within the production area.
- Responsible for maintaining and adhering to established Good Manufacturing Procedures (GMP) and Safety Quality Foods (SQF) compliance requirements.
- Assists in the prevention of nonconforming product from being shipped to customers.
- Identifies and records problems relating to product, process, and quality systems.
- Initiates action to prevent occurrences of any non-conformity of product or quality systems.
- Suggests actions for continual improvement to products, processes, or systems and verifies the implementation of solutions.
- Tracks, confirms, and verifies training for employees in the department and schedules training as needed and required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or three to five years of production management related experience preferred with a successful track record with results proven metrics.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to analyze metrics.
- Ability to present and provide tours to customers, organizations, and outside vendors.
- Fluent with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
- Ability to work independently or as a team with the other department leaders.
