Physicist for optical system design (f/m/d)

For the “Industry and Space” division, we are looking for a “Physicist for Optical System Design (f/m/d)” at the Oberkochen site as soon as possible. The interdisciplinary team develops complex measurement systems for EUV lithography as well as optical systems for space applications. In close coordination between the project team and the customer, the requirements are defined and a corresponding system concept is developed. The team is also responsible for and supports the technical implementation of the design and the subsequent transfer to production.

• Technical responsibility for the development of complex optical measurement systems
• Joint development and coordination of system design and specification with the customer
• Creation of concepts for optical measurement systems under consideration of cost, time and manufacturability
• Close cooperation and coordination with system engineers of the team
• Coordination with optical designers, optical component manufacturers, and manufacturing as part of the optical design process
• Creation of optical/physical surrogate models and simulations to predict system behavior
• Preparation of tolerance budgets and failure analyses
• Contribute to the preparation of schedule, cost and capacity plans
• Technical interface for the optics system design to the customer

• Degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, photonics, physics or similar
• Several years of professional experience in optical design for technically complex optical systems
• Experience in the specification, conception and technical design of complex optical measurement systems
• Extensive experience in the use of relevant optical design software tools for concept design, complete design and tolerance analysis (ZEMAX, Python, ..)
• Very good knowledge of optics, sensor technology, opto-electronics, technical mechanics or actuator technology
• Independent recognition of tasks in the project as well as systematic solution development
• User knowledge in DOORS and Matlab / Simulink
• Strong presentation skills, systemic thinking and delegation skills
• High degree of flexibility and initiative
• Very good knowledge of German and English
